What is the best way to live a good life of faith? This is a question often asked by all believers. This text teaches us the right way to live our faith, the process of becoming sanctified as God's people. Let's take a look at what the right life of faith is that God presents to us.
1. Write the Word in your heart (verses 1-4)
When the Israelites cross the Jordan River and enter the land of Canaan, there is a ritual that they must perform first. To set up a stone monument on Mount Ebal, whitewash it, and write all the words of the law on it. The reason for whitewashing is to make the letters visible. That is, it is to transmit the law well. Previously, Moses had told us to proclaim a curse on Mount Ebal (11:29). Mount Ebal of Cursing To erect a stone monument on Mount Ebal, a sacrifice belonging to the curse was required.
Today, we too must engrave the Word of God on the stone stone of our hearts. In order to keep the Word in our hearts, we need to read and meditate on the Word every day. In this age, the Word is overflowing like a flood. You can easily access the Word anywhere. The important thing is to take the words we hear and read into our hearts so that the words claim our inner being.
2. Build a true altar (verses 5-8)
After the people of Israel built the stone stone, they had to build an altar. And you must offer burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. When building an altar, the stone should be built as it is, not with an iron tool. Unfinished stones are not uniform in size and look unsightly. But God commanded us to build an altar as it is. This teaches us that we should sacrifice in spirit and truth rather than focusing on outward appearance. It means to live a life of faith that comes to God as you truly are. God wants true worship without pretense. Please look into whether the worship we are offering now is a true worship that God is pleased with.
3. Obey the Word (verses 9-10)
After speaking of the first ordinances to be performed in Canaan, Moses commands them to listen to the word of God that he is proclaiming. He commands, "Now that you are God's people, obey God's commands and keep His ordinances." The reason Israel must hear God's word and do it is because they are the chosen people of the holy God. Therefore, what Israel needs is an attitude to live as God's people.
We too are God's chosen people. God justified us as sinners and made us His people. Therefore, we must be born again as a holy people by obeying the Word of God.
Worship is not something we see with our eyes, but something we offer with a sincere heart. The Word is not what you hear with your ears, but what you write in your heart and put into practice. I hope that you will become the saints who are full of joy and glorify God by living the life of faith that God wants.
