Moses summarizes the numerous curses mentioned so far in today's text once again. The factor that leads to numerous curses is 'disobedience to the Word'. This arrangement is to imprint that the cost of disobedience is that great. I hope this will be a time to organize our attitude toward disobedience through the Word.
1. Sickness and Scattering (verses 58-64)
The curses that Israel will receive when they disobey can be divided into three main categories. The first is a curse that causes disease to fall and the people to be scattered. If Israel does not keep all the words of the law, God will bring down diseases that have never been seen before, including diseases that are prevalent in Egypt. He also promised Abraham that his descendants would multiply, but if they did not obey, they would be uprooted from the land they lived in and scattered among all peoples. Israel, cursed by God, will be desolate. Everything you enjoyed and had before will be gone. By warning of this judgment, God wanted Israel to faithfully fulfill the covenant. The reason He is giving us these words today is because He wants us to obey God's Word by taking Israel as a mirror.
2. Anxiety and fear (verses 65-67)
The second is the curse, which causes us to experience anxiety and fear. The Israelites, who committed the sin of disobedience, will be scattered throughout the country to worship idols they did not know. Those who enjoyed safety and peace will live in anxiety, despair, worry, and fear of life. Life is hard, and in the morning you will be in a state of cursing the living, wishing it to be early evening, and wishing it to be early in the evening. A life abandoned by God is restless and tiring, and there is only despair and fear. We must keep in mind that if we do not fully serve God when everything is abundant, there will come a time when we are afraid of even our own lives. Are you living in peace and abundance now? Please remember and keep the word of God the Creator.
3. Becoming a slave (v. 68)
The third is to become a slave. Previously, God had promised not to return to Egypt. But disobeying God will bring them back to a time of oppression, oppression, and abuse. You will soon return to the days of slavery. But, tragically, no one would be willing to sell himself into slavery. No one wants to buy a body damaged by various diseases and starvation because it is difficult to work. When a believer turns away from God and disobeys God, he becomes a slave to the world again and a slave to sin. No one can give us freedom. We are children of God. I hope you will live in the will and word of God and enjoy true freedom.
Those who become God's covenant people must live a life of obedience. How is our life? Do you not take God's judgment lightly? We must remember that God is the One who fulfills the Word. And I hope you enjoy God's grace every day by living an obedient life.
