Did you receive a gift? (Acts 2:37-42)
Those who heard Peter's sermon were pierced in their hearts for giving Jesus to be crucified without knowing right away. So when they asked, 'What should we do?' Peter answered, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’ He said that this promise was made not only to the generation of parents and children, but also to all people, that is, to those whom God calls. God's gift is a promise that transcends nations, peoples, languages, cultures, and generations, not just to one specific person. How can it be said that Jesus is giving a gift to unbelievers who mock, ignore, and treat them like drunkards? Can anyone really receive the Holy Spirit as a gift, the promise God has made to believers through Jesus Christ? How can I be saved and receive the Holy Spirit as a gift?
1. God's promised gift
God is faithful. The faithful God loved his chosen people and promised a gift of grace. A promise is a hope for the future that is made in a relationship of mutual trust. God has promised a great gift of blessing to his loved ones, especially those who believe in Jesus Christ, whom he has sent as the Son of God. The Bible is the scriptures written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit, and it gives people real benefit and equips them to do good (2 Tim. Therefore, whoever receives the gift promised by God through the Bible by faith, that is, to those who obey His promise, He gives the promised gift. The Bible records the confessions and testimonies of those who heard the word of promise and received blessings through faith, while the testimonies of those who did not believe and disobey God's promise are recorded. The ancestors of faith are those who have inherited blessings by obeying God's promised commandments, ordinances and laws (Gen. 26:5).
2. A gift from God
The Holy Spirit promised by God is a gift by nature, and the scope of receiving the Holy Spirit is all people. It is a gift of promise given equally to all children, generations to come, and to all peoples from the time when the word of promise was witnessed. And the conditions for receiving the Holy Spirit as a gift are repentance for sins, baptism, and faith in the Word. These promises are the blessings you receive when you discover your sins in Jesus, repent and confess, and change your direction. And it is the grace that is poured out on the humble heart that accepts the Word by faith. This gift of the Holy Spirit is God's promised gift in the last days that individuals, families, and communities can receive together (Acts 2:17). The Holy Spirit as a gift is understood in two ways. First, it is the gift of the Holy Spirit. This means the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is divided into gifts and fruits. A gift is an outward manifestation of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). And the fruit is expressed in character (Galatians 5:22-23).
3. The effect of gifts
