Title Don't Stay, Go!

Contents

Subject: Don't Stay, Go!

Word: Genesis 11:31 ~ 12:1

[ The difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament ]

* New Testament

“The truth about salvation” was doctrinal and systematically explained.

* Old Testament

It presents the life of a saint through each person who moves toward “salvation” and explains “what it is to live by faith” through symbols.

** Israel's traditional notion of blessing

“The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph”

? ear

* Son of Abraham - “the privilege of adoption”

Isaac? He resembled his father Abraham.

A weak and lacking person who even referred to his beloved wife as “sister”.

Nevertheless!

Only through the sovereignty of God, he received the authority to become God's adoption and the privilege of becoming a child.

Just because he was a child of God, he experienced amazing grace and love from God.

** God through Isaac's life?

It is emphasized to us that the life of a saint is not a meaningless life, but a precious child chosen by God and responsible for.

? Jacob

* He is an opportunist and a staunch scammer. - A person with strong sinfulness.

It is important to get good fortune, but the typical figure of a person whose process is not right.

What is Jacob's heart? I've been living in "conflict" all my life.

He couldn't do anything because of his older brother, and his life was tiring due to conflict with his uncle Laban.

** Who is Jacob? His conflict was not resolved until he met God at the Yabbok River ferry.

[ apply ]

The life of a saint?

He tells us that if we do not fully meet God, we will never change and we will still have no choice but to live in the conflict structure of sin and the world.

? Joseph

* It shows the Christian life that overcame hardship and adversity.

- Sold into slavery by his brothers, he is imprisoned for the conspiracy of a woman and suffers.

But when you are patient and depend on God?

Joseph's life became a life of victory recognized by God and man.

ex) a type of Jesus Christ

[ Point to realize ]

We must become saints who realize the truth and the way of life of faith through the elders of faith who have experienced God's Word in their lives.

(1) Abraham - the father of faith

First, find the straight path of faith.

1) A person who looks just like me, who is said to be the father of faith, but has many mistakes and faults at the same time.

- However, through God's guidance and obedience to God, "I have changed into a person of faith that God wants"

“Don’t be afraid to change”

2) If we look at Abraham's journey until he became the father of faith, three place names will appear.

Together with his nephew Lot, they are “Ur of the Chaldeans,” “Haran,” and “Canaan.”

** What about Abraham despite God's command?

They could not go directly to the land of Canaan and stayed in the land of Haran.

[ The primary word of God ]

“Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house and go to the land I will show you.”

[Abraham's attitude toward this] - He did not immediately obey.

3) What is the effect of obedience? Not “for a moment”, but “immediately.”

** Looking at “Stephen’s Sermon” in Acts 7:2-4?

Several things happened to Abraham who was living in Haran.

? God's command to leave

? death of Abraham's father Terah

God? He told them to leave “Chaldaeur” and strongly told them not to stay in “Haran”.

4) Chaldean crying?

** The present-day Persian Gulf region, a fertile land flowing with rivers. (crescent region)

Looking at the relics excavated?

It was a place where jewelery and bookmaking developed, and at the same time, it was an area where idols were thoroughly worshiped.

It is a spiritually desolated land with a sick soul, and a black land where the children of God cannot live.

[God's intention]

** To make people of pure faith?

God appointed and brought Abraham out of an unclean, ugly, and selfish place.

5) What is the problem?

It is that Abraham did not respond to God's call at once and at once. (Can't obey all at once)

** Abraham lived in Haran, a desolate place about 800 km northwest, until he was 75 years old.

Abraham, who does not go directly to Canaan, but stays in Haran.

[ apply ]

** Are you unable to live by faith with the Word? It is the same as us, who come and go here and there. (irrational belief)

6) Despite this, he was ambivalent and was approved by God despite his indecisiveness.

12:4 - “So Abram went according to the word of the Lord.”

** Who is Abraham?

Although it was a lack of vessel, I tried to live according to the word of God as much as I needed.

** Who cannot live without God's grace? It is Abraham, we are.

They were all sustained by the Holy Spirit,

[Go away! ]

* To become the father of faith!

“I have commanded you to leave the mainland, your relatives, and your father’s house.

What does this mean?

? "mainland"

- You mean the country where you were born and raised?

- Who are the people who belong to the state? A country can make it clear which country you belong to.

** What was the nation of the saints before they knew Jesus?

“sin”.

- Our homeland is “the old man” and “the worldly way of thinking and values”.

- A place where God does not rule.

** Are you telling me to leave the mainland?

After all, a place where God does not rule.

It tells us to turn away from our sinful habits and evil life.

Since the affiliation has changed, it means to act and live according to the changed affiliation.

? Leave “relatives”

- It is really difficult to keep the faith in the relationship of relatives.

- Human relationships that do not serve God must be cut off.

- Because our faith is shaken by family, friends and people around us?

It's about getting rid of bad habits and ethics.

ex) Historical way of thinking (equality between men and women, delayed academic ties)

? Leave the “father’s house”.

- Where is my father, the father's house of the flesh? “I say that I was born and raised”

- Where is your father's house? In the end, it refers to “my personality and environment” that has been tamed.

ex) anger, resentment, envy

God?

** He told Abraham, “Leave your land, your relatives, and your father’s house.

[ apply ]

What do we need?

** This is not a word. It's not an argument or gossip.

It only requires a decision of faith to act.

It is our choice whether to go to Canaan or to stay and live in the land of Haran.

Find the straight path of faith! Don't go back!

Second, live a life of complete obedience.

1) On the way to Canaan, we see that Abraham came to a place called “Haran.

** Looking at Genesis 11:24-32?

Terah, Abraham's father, accompanied him to Haran, where he saw him die.

Terah was 205 years old at that time, and Abraham was 75 years old.

2) What is Terah's occupation?

** He was a person who made and sold idols.

He was the creator of God himself.

Although he has made many gods with his own hands, he does not know what God really is.

** Can Terah know the God of his son Abraham?

I don't know at all.

3) What was Terah really worried about?

Why did Terah follow after his son Abraham heard the voice of God?

** What was Terah worried about?

Not Abraham.

Who will bury you after you die? it was a problem

Look at Terah, who had a religion, but could not find God and solve the problem of death!

4) Terah was the man who had no choice but to follow his son Abraham to Haran and then died.

** You must meet God and experience the grace and blessings that God gives you,

It was Terah, Abraham's father, who was dragged away as if dragged by a pig's tail.

[ apply ]

* How many people seem to believe in Jesus well, but are not real?

Dera? He was a man of no substance, both religiously and spiritually.

* Be bold! You must not become like Terah, who sings praises with one mouth but lives in sorrow and injustice in his heart.

5) What does Haran mean?

** 'dry dry', 'scorch'

What is Haran? It is a barren and barren place unsuitable for human habitation.

Who are those who do not obey on the way to the land of Canaan?

** Just like “Tera” who lived in Haran and burned to death after all!

Because of a dry spiritual life!

You go to church without knowing grace or power, and it will end.

6) Live a life of complete obedience!

** Leaving? speaking of obedience.

We see that the blessing was delayed because Abraham wasted time in coming to Haran without completely obeying God's word.

ex) Don't trust your plans too much!

Don't be too hard on God!

7) What if I just leave? God's promises are fulfilled.

** If you obey? God walks with you.

What did it mean to go into Canaan? It means living a “life filled with the Holy Spirit.”

What is “a life filled with the Holy Spirit”?

** It means living with God in my heart.

Remember that complete obedience leads to a Spirit-filled life!

Third, building an altar is the key.

1) Look at 12:7-8!

** There is one secret that Abraham cannot but receive the blessing.

Abraham was an “altar builder” wherever he went.

What does it mean to build an altar? that they worshiped God.

What do you gain from worship?

2) It should not be a worship service to show, but a worship service of encounter with God.

** To experience and be washed by the power of the blood of the Lord.

This is to listen to God's voice through worship and not to go sideways.

The inhabitants of the land of Canaan are idolaters.

** To receive the ‘blessings of the land of Canaan’ among those who do not know Jesus today?

It should be “a life of worship.”

3) The words of 12:8!

“From there they moved to the mountain east of Bethel and pitched their tents, Bethel to the west and Ai to the east.”

** Bethel - means the house of God.

Ai - means ruin and destruction.

[Historical Origin of Bethel]

* The place where Jacob, while fleeing from his brother Esau, designated it as “the house of God” and built a “temple.”

[ The historical origin of the child ]

* Because of Achan's disobedience, the Israelites were exterminated in Ai

[Application] What is the life of a saint? It should be a life that builds the altar of Bethel.

Don't stay! Keep moving!

** You cannot be satisfied with the things of God and the things of the world at the same time.

Abraham did not live completely in Haran.

** This is a person who stayed for a while and went to Canaan.

Be a person of “forward faith” who is constantly moving forward!

walking in the holy spirit

Don't stop!

I bless you in the name of the Lord to become children of faith who go out toward the kingdom of God.
