Title Don't Turn Back / Luke 9:57-62
Do not look back / Luke 9:57-62
The gist of today's message is Don't turn back. . The main message will be to say that you do not regret the way you came and do not turn around, but only look ahead and run. If we look at the text we read today, we see three people who were called before God, but then turned back.
I. A person who wants and follows without sacrifice
II. a person who postpones following the Lord
The second person, though provisionally, is putting off following the Lord in order to fulfill some duty. When the Lord told me to follow him, he said that he would follow the Lord after burying my father. Here, this man is making excuses to Jesus even though his father is not dead. He is saying that when his father dies, he will be buried and then follow the Lord. Through this scene, Jesus is saying that now is important. If you delay one day, you will delay one week, and if you delay one week, you will be unable to come to Jesus for a month, and finally forever. That is why we have reason to be faithful to God's word now.
Ⅲ. who can't clear the past
The third person is a person who makes all decisions for self-fulfillment, the achievement of a purpose. I will follow you, but first let me say goodbye to my family. Elisha, who said he would follow the great prophet Elijah in the Old Testament, once said something similar. However, when we see that the cows are gathered, killed, and distributed to the neighbors, all farm implements are burned, and returned after greeting the father, we can see that Elisha came from the past. A follower of the Lord cannot follow Jesus without clearing his past. Another evil of the third man was that he did not obey properly. A disciple cannot become a true disciple without obedience. But we selectively obey by giving with our lips. But we should know that we must obey God's Word completely.
*Conclusion
Don't look back, only look forward. These are the words to all three people. Looking back, you should remember Lot's wife who became a pillar of salt. The sin of Lot's wife was the sin of disobedience. And disobedience comes from unbelief. A person who does not obey God and looks around the world. All three types in the Gospel of Luke are of this type. Therefore, we should move forward, remembering the work entrusted to us by God. I hope that you will be a people who believe in the word of the Lord that He will be with us until the end and go forward for the Lord no matter what damage or difficulty comes.
