Bible Text: John 19:28-30
All done!
Helen Keller lost her sight when she was 19 months old. He attended special school, spoke five languages, including German, and at 16 he entered Radclaf University, where he became the first in American history to earn a bachelor's degree in audiovisual. He said: “I am the only one, and that fact does not change. I can't do everything, but I can do something."
The last “last words” that Jesus left behind were “It is finished!” Death comes to everyone, but Jesus built a monument that will last forever, until the sun cools down, more of what Jesus did in his life than what he did in life.
“It’s done!” This is the inscription on the monument of Jesus.
You have fulfilled all the scriptures.
Jesus said, “It is finished!” What have you accomplished? “After that, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, was trying to fulfill the scriptures, saying, I am thirsty” (verse 28). “The soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross, took his garments, divided them into four collars, and each took one of them, and he also took his undergarment. This garment was woven from above, not knitted. The soldiers said to each other, “Don’t tear this, but let’s cast lots, whoever gets it.” ” This is to fulfill the words of Psalm 22:18, “I divide my clothes and cast lots for my clothes” (verses 23-24).
To say that Jesus made the Bible come true means that he took action to fulfill it. You have fulfilled the prophecies of the prophets. “Jesus took the twelve disciples and said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all that is written through the prophets will come true for the Son of Man. On the third day he will rise...” (Luke 18:32-33) All of this happened as prophesied in Psalm 22 and Isaiah 52:13-43:12. But the disciples did not understand any of this. They did not know what Jesus was saying (Luke 18:34).
Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” Why are you thirsty? He was thirsty while fulfilling the Bible. He was thirsty to fulfill the prophecies of the prophets.
Samson killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. Samson was very thirsty and cried out to the Lord, “You have brought this great salvation by the hand of your servant; but now I shall die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised.” God broke a hollow, and there was water. it came out When Samson drank it, he was restored to life, and he called the name of the spring Enhakkore. It means “fountain of those who cry”. (Judges 16:16-19).
Samson was thirsty while fighting the Philistines, and Jesus was thirsty to fulfill the Bible. The words “I am thirsty!” are words that pour out a terrible thirst. It was an expression of instinctive desire, and at the same time, it was an effort to fulfill the prophecy. “I am thirsty!” This is the cry of the Messiah's suffering. To give living water to the thirsty, he had to be thirsty. When you do hard work, you feel thirsty. My throat burns when I try. My throat burns when my heart and strength are overworked. Begging, begging, begging, clinging to you that you shouldn't listen. He thirsted to fulfill the prophecy. We too must work hard enough to be thirsty to fulfill the prophecy. Please be thirsty to fulfill the word of God and to fulfill the prophecy.
You have accomplished all your missions.
In the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John, we find the prayer of Jesus. He said, “I have glorified you in this world by doing what you have given me to do…glorify me with you” (John 17:4-5). Jesus saw death approaching and said that the time had come for the Son of Man to be glorified. He said that if a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it bears much fruit (John 12:23-24).
What Jesus told us to do is to lay down our lives. What God has told you to do is to die. Jesus' mission is to take away the sins of the world and die. It is his mission to lay down his life for sinners. The salvation of sinners is worth the cost of Jesus' life.
Martin Luther King Jr. “Find the reason you were born. What mission did you come here for? God has given all ordinary people the ability to achieve his purpose.” There is power only when there is a mission. Those who have to live for it have the power to do it. Mission fulfills mission. The sense of duty also includes talent and ability.
The Apostle Paul speaks of his mission: “I do not count my life of any value, in order to finish my course and the mission I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24). that it is a mission.
“According to my earnest expectation and hope that Christ may be honored in my body, whether by life or death, for for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:20-21)
“An eager expectation” means that the watchman hangs his neck and looks into the distance. Concentrating on one object without diverting one eye to the other. He is imprisoned, not expecting to be released from prison, but to have Christ glorified in his body. It is not a matter of one's death or life, but rather that Christ is honored. For the purpose of his mission, he wants to make himself a man of God, and to live and die for Christ. It is to offer one's body as a drink offering to the Lord (Philippians 2:17).
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). . Then Jesus asked if I could drink the cup I was drinking. That cup is the cup of death, not the cup of toast.
Jesus was born into the world with a human body to do the work that God told us to do, and he died for that work. There are two main things God has told us to do. The first is worship and the second is evangelism.
You have accomplished all your salvation.
After Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished! And he bowed his head, and immediately the soul departed” (verse 30). After doing the work, he said, “It is finished!” You did. It is a declaration of the victor who has accomplished the purpose. That voice is the cry of the Messiah who saved us.
The suffering the Lord had to go through before the cross was an unbearable shame. You were taken away by the soldiers. Sinners judged the sinless Son of God. The soldiers were beaten with whips without mercy. The robber who was crucified with him mocked that if you were the Son of God, come down from the cross without dying. But Jesus was silent. “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter, and a sheep silent before its shearers, so he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53:7).
“It’s done!” Hashim is a declaration that there is no more work to be done for the salvation of mankind. From now on, it is a declaration that there is no need to sacrifice animals for atonement. When Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, he said, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:29).
Jesus' will was to live, but God's will was to die. Jesus wanted the cup of death to pass, but God wanted us to drink the cup of death. Jesus said that He came into the world to do the will of God (Hebrews 10:7).
There is this story in the Talmud. A couple with eleven children went through a divorce. The problem is that we divide everything in half, but since we have 11 children, we divided them in half and there was only one left. When there was no conclusion, I went to the rabbi and got a verdict. “Go home and get one of the children quickly. After that, we divide it into six people.” The couple became pregnant and had a child, as the rabbi had said. They never parted and lived happily ever after. What God wants is salvation, not judgment. You are to be sacrificed for the salvation of mankind.
Evangelism is our fulfillment of God's will. Evangelism is the wisdom of God. “...it was pleased with the foolishness of evangelism to save those who believed, because the world did not know God in its wisdom” (1 Corinthians 1:21).
My friends came to visit a writer and asked me to go out to chill on the weekend. The writer said he couldn't go because he had to write the work. The next evening, when friends came to visit, the artist said that he felt good because he did a lot of work instead of going out to play. When I looked at the manuscript, asking how much I had written, it didn't look like I had written anything at all, so I asked him what he was doing. The author said that he changed the comma to a period. Comma ( , ) and period ( . ) are different. Jesus is done. You have completely accomplished salvation. You have put an end.
Jesus said, “It is finished!” What a majestic and majestic affirmation is this? What a wonderful declaration of victory. He was thirsty to declare this.
When he prayed over the cup of death, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground (Luke 22:42,44).
He looked down on the destruction of Jerusalem and wept (Luke 19:41). “How many times have I sought to gather my children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing” (Matthew 23:37).
He shed blood on the cross and said, “I am thirsty!” You shed sweat, tears, and blood, the three major liquids of your life. He was thirsty to fulfill the prophecies of the prophets in order to fulfill the Bible. He was thirsty to complete the mission that God had told him to do. He thirsted by shedding blood to save mankind. A burning thirst with the tongue sticking to the roof of the mouth: “It is finished!” You've done it all. Just believe it. Believe it well. Just make me believe it. Please pray.
