Title: Trinity
Text: Ephesians 1:3-14
Preaching the doctrine of the Trinity is a very difficult sermon. However, those who lead a religious life must know this so that they do not fall for heretics. So I decided to preach.
The word Trinity is a theological term that does not appear in the Bible. But it is a biblical theological thought. To deny the Trinity is heresy.
Yahweh God said that I am the one Yahweh, and there is no other god but me.
Then you have to use the singular. Nevertheless, there are many places where he used himself as the plural of us, and in the Old Testament, God promised that he would send his son, and when Jesus came into the world, he claimed that he was the Son sent by God. Jesus is called God, the apostle John is called God in the Gospel of John, and the apostle Paul is also called God. And about the Holy Spirit, it is expressed in the Old Testament as the Spirit of God or the spirituality of God, and in the New Testament, it is said to be the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of the Counselor, the spirit son of Christ.
At the same time, the Holy Spirit is angry and rejoicing, dispensing gifts to people according to his will, guiding us, and portraying him as a personal God. Therefore, based on the Bible, we
God the Father is God, God the Son is God, and God the Holy Spirit is God.
He said that these three are also the only God and one God, so we must believe that the Trinity is one God.
If you look at the word Trinity historically, the English word Trinity comes from the Latin Trinitas, which is a shortened form of Tri-unity. It means that three are one. It means that one is three, three is one, and it does not mean triplex. The Latin term Trinitas was first used by Tertullian in the Latin Church around 220 AD.
The Greek word trias (Τγιασ) was first used by Theophilus, the Syrian bishop of Antioch, in 168-183 AD.
Let's look at the biblical evidence of the Trinity
biblical evidence
1. Plural terms for God
The Only God: Jehovah God emphasized that He is one God. And sometimes plural is used
The only God: Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, Israel, the LORD is only one.
The plural of us, Genesis 1:26 God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.
A verse that well describes the Triune God. Isaiah 63:7-11
2. The Divinity and Personality of the Son and the Holy Spirit
The Bible speaks of the Son and the Holy Spirit as God.
And it is portrayed as a personal person.
About the Father
1 Corinthians 8:6 To us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things are...
John 6:27 The Son of Man is the seal of God the Father
about the saint
John 1:1 The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 20:28 Thomas said, My Lord and my God.
Romans 9:5 I am the God who is above all, to be praised throughout the ages.
About the Holy Spirit
John 15:26 When the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, proceeds from the Father, he will testify of me.
1 Corinthians 2:10-11 No one knows the circumstances of God except the Spirit of God.
The three have personal fellowship.
John 14:16 I will ask the Father, and he will rise and give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever, who is the Spirit of truth.
John 17:1 Glorify the Son, let the Son glorify the Father
Trinity exists in other religions. But the Trinity is different from the Trinity.
I try to explain the Trinity with water, ice, water vapor, or sun light inferiority.
The Trinity is not a doctrine to be understood. It is a doctrine that must be accepted by faith.
Reformer Melanton "The mystery of the Trinity is not something we will study, but we will adore."
Illustrate of the Trinity
The Triune God is the only indivisible entity.
the Father is God
the saint is god
The Holy Spirit is God.
But
The Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit
The Son is not the Father or the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is neither the Son nor the Father.
Heresies we must guard against
1. Modalistic Trinity: God sometimes appears as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
That is, in the Old Testament, God the Father, and when God came in the flesh, He
On the day of Pentecost, he comes as the Holy Spirit. Although they appear in different forms, they are one God.
This does not explain the phenomena such as when Jesus was baptized or when a voice from heaven was heard from the Mount of Transfiguration. He also clearly said that Jesus said that the Father sent me, and that when I go, the Holy Spirit will come.
2. Tritheistic Trinity: The three are independent Gods, but they do different things.
3. Claim that God the Father is the only God: Jesus was the first creation, the Holy Spirit is the power or power of God, and the true God is God the Father.
Trinity Ministry
Ephesians 1:3-14 speaks of praise to the work of the Triune God.

He is the subject of the work of decree, predestination, and the providence of creation.
Predestination and Providence Ephesians 1:4-5
1 Corinthians 8:6 To us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things are… the plan of election and redemption John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me.
Election and vocation Romans 8:28 To those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose,
All things work together for good.

The term firstborn son
Hebrews 1:6 Colossians 1:18 It means heir by father and son, and it means the firstborn from the dead.
As the Son of God, the Son has humanity and divinity.
Denying divinity and humanity is heresy. 1 John 2:22 4:2
He is the subject of the work of redemption.
Ephesians 1:7-8
Holy Ghost
Ephesians 1:13 The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who guides us to the end by applying the work of redemption
The Spirit of God: 1 Corinthians 2:11
Comforter: John 15:16
Spirit of truth: John 15:17
Spirit of Christ Galatians 4:6 Romans 8:9
God's Spirit: Genesis 1:2
conclusion:
It was the work of the Triune God that created and saved us. God the Father foreordained me before the foundation of the world and made me a child, the Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for me to complete the work of redemption, and I should be thankful that the Holy Spirit made me believe and guide me today. So we just thank and believe. And I will be thankful that the Triune God still loves me and is in me, guides me, protects me, enlightens me, and guides me into the truth.
