Text: Matthew 28:18-20
The biggest issue of this year's Methodist Church was the “3 Million Evangelism Movement.”
This movement, which continues even now, is to send souls who will go to hell to heaven, to bring those who are slaves to the devil into the class of God's blessed children, and to renew the status of the Methodist Church.
Today's text is about evangelism. “Go ye and make disciples of all nations … ”.
Why? Should I evangelize?
This is because evangelism is the Lord's command, and for this purpose he has received all authority in the realm of God's rule (verse 18). In particular, in today's Word, we can find comprehensive aspects of evangelism.
1. The way of evangelism is to seek it out.
“Go” is a second person plural imperative participle. “You” refers to all Christians, not just the disciples of the day. In Luke 10:1, “Jesus sent 70 publishers into each town”, we can see that he made his disciples ‘seek out’. Evangelism is about visiting, meeting, and preaching. We hope you will reach out to your neighbors, friends, relatives, and wherever people live.
2. The object of evangelism is to anyone.
‘All races’ means that all people living in this world, whether they are my own kind or a stranger, or a good-looking person or not, do not care about the color of skin. It is to believe and preach that anyone can become a child of God.
3. The purpose of evangelism is to make disciples.
Now, all the disciples who have witnessed the glory of the risen Lord have to do is to deliver the grace of salvation to all people. Therefore, it is to belong to the Lord. Jesus becomes the teacher and we become his disciples. Spiritual belonging is changing. Those who belong to the devil become those who belong to God, so those who go to hell become those who go to heaven. He also gave us authority for this work (John 1:12). Authority includes worldly authority and spiritual authority. The power of the world is to honor me, to prosper and to exalt me. However, spiritual authority has the purpose of glorifying God, prospering the church, and glorifying Jesus.
The necessary elements in the process of making disciples are recorded from verses 19-20 to the first half.
First, it must be baptized.
Baptism is an outward sign of salvation and a holy sacrament for Christians that speaks of being a disciple of Jesus. Acts 2:41 says, “When they were baptized, the number of the disciples was added on that day by 3,000.” Here, we can see that the disciple of Jesus was baptized as the standard.
Second, you need to teach.
The Word must be taught and educated. The church teaches and trains the way of salvation, the victory of resurrection, and how to live according to the will of the Lord through Bible studies, seminars, class meetings, and local associations. I hope that you will grow as a mature disciple of Christ through this process.
Thirdly, it must be preserved.
In the old days, when the canon law was strict, if you did not follow the example as a Christian, you were severely disciplined, such as expulsion and dismissal. But today, it is sad that this image has disappeared. We must thoroughly observe the laws of the Lord's Word and respect the order in the Church for the good of the Church.
In conclusion, it is “to evangelize and make people like Jesus.” Only then can we receive salvation, become children of God, go to heaven, and live eternally.
Then, is evangelism easy?
no. It is difficult. That's why it's worth it. For the sake of evangelism, Paul testifies in 2 Corinthians 11ㅣ23-27, “He worked hard, was imprisoned many times, beaten many times, and suffered near death many times.” That is why evangelism is compared to “a woman’s labor in childbirth.”
Our Lord also knew that evangelism was difficult and difficult, and said, “Behold, I will always be with you, even to the end of the world.” We cannot handle it on our own, so He sent another Counselor, the Holy Spirit, so that we can bear this task with the Holy Spirit.
John 14:17-18 “And he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever, who is the Spirit of truth, and the world cannot receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you; I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” In a word, I will be with you forever, so preach boldly.
Dear members of Shepherd Church,
Now, only evangelism remains. That is the only thing we can boast about before the Lord. Also, that is the only way to boast before the Lord, and it is the greatest purpose of life. Let's shout together. "Evangelize! I will preach and live all my life.” Amen, Hallel
