Title [Exodus 24:1-11] Covenant conclusion
Exodus 24 records the covenant between God and the nation of Israel. God made a covenant with Abraham in the past (Genesis 15:7-21). He promised the Gentiles that they would be slaves for 400 years but would be set free. It is called the Torch Covenant because the covenant was established as a torch passed between the split animals. Now, God made a covenant with the people of Israel who brought them out of Egypt on Mount Sinai, and he is trying to receive grace by examining the contents.
1. There was a reading of the covenant (3.7).
Verse 3 says, “Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all his decrees.” The content of the covenant is from Exodus 20 to 23. Moses wrote down all the words God gave and read them to the people. All written Bibles are covenants that God has given us. We call this Bible the Old Testament and the New Testament. It means the old covenant and the new covenant. We should give glory to Hannah with gratitude and emotion that we can hear the covenant that Moses read to the people of Israel. Also, we will have to keep our faith by reading and checking this covenant frequently.
2. The people swore to obey (3,7).
In the second half of verse 3, “they answered with one voice, saying, All that the LORD has spoken, we will do.” And in the second half of verse 7, they said, “All the words of the LORD, we will do.” A covenant is established when both parties approve. The oath of the people of Israel to obey all the words God gave them was the response that made the covenant into a covenant. Depending on how we respond when we hear the words of God's covenant, all these words may be given to us as a blessing or may end up as meaningless words that have nothing to do with us. Let us react like the people of Sinai to every word given to us. The response is, “Everything the Lord has spoken we will do.” So, I hope that we will become believers who receive all the blessings in the covenant.
3. The covenant was confirmed by offering burnt offerings and peace offerings and sprinkling blood (4,5,6,8).
4. Before God, the representatives of the people ate and drank and had fun fellowship (9-11).
