Genesis Exposition 5 [Gen 5:1-Gen 5:32]
* Descendants of Seth: 1) Abel died and was replaced by a life
2) Abel was a righteous man, and the descendants of Abel, the descendants of Seth, were the families of the righteous.
3) There is the blood of the righteous in the genealogy of Seth.
* If the genealogy of Cain shows the characteristics of a carnal man, the genealogy of Seth shows the characteristics of the righteous.
* The righteous are recognized and remembered by God.
1) Seth's genealogy records how many years he lived. It shows that God remembers people.
2) In the genealogy of Seth, we can see the type of Jesus and the true believer who lives in Jesus.
I. Characteristics of the righteous
1. One who walks with God.
1) Verse 24: “Enoch walked with God, and he was not in this world, because he took him.”
2) God wants us to always walk and have fellowship with Him.
3) If fleshly humans build their own castle and try to cut off from God, those who live in the image of a spiritually righteous person try to have deep communion with God.
4) In the image of Jesus, Jesus constantly had fellowship in the relationship of love between the Father and the Son. (Praying every morning, proclaiming the Father's will as the Son's authority)
5) Another aspect of companionship is humility. Companionship is not what other people want to fit into me, but how I walk according to others. If you first walk ahead and ask to follow as much as I do, it is never a relationship of companionship. The accompanying person walks at the same pace even if the pace of the accompanying person is slow.
6) Jesus also walks with us. Jesus humbled Himself and met our footsteps. The Lord is the God of Immanuel (Matthew 1:23).
7) A truly righteous person does not demand from others. Rather than asking for it from a higher position, it is to accompany you with humility as you descend to a lower position. Conversely, the fleshly people try to dominate and manipulate the weak.
2. meek person
1) The name of Seth's son Enosh means "weak one". He was weak and began to call on the name of the Lord from the days of Enosh (4:26). The word to call here does not mean “to call” but “to weep and cry”.
2) Physical people are harsh and hurtful, but spiritual people are gentle and warm, like a gentle sheep, and humbly cry out to the Lord.
3) Jesus was always meek and like a gentle sheep. That is why he endured the pain of the cross with obedience (Isaiah 43).
3. Believers at the Podium
1) The meaning of the name of Kenan is “blacksmith”. A blacksmith is a person who refines.
2) God wants us to have faith like gold by refining us. (yq 23:10, Psalm 66:10-12)
4. Recognized and praised faith
1) The meaning of the name Mahalalel is “to be praised and praised by God”.
2) A righteous person and a person of the spirit will bear fruit that is appropriate for them.
3) Be a model person for others to follow, even if you do not try to exalt yourself or command to follow.
5. Patience and Temperance of Faith
1) Jared means “going down. It means “continue”.
2) No matter what tribulations and hardships come, our faith must continue. A believer who believes well at first, but then undergoes a test and loses faith, has weak roots.
3) A righteous person is one who keeps their faith until the day of His Second Coming.
6. Devoted believers
1) Enoch's name means "one who is devoted".
2) Do not expect God to do something for us, but show obedience and dedication first!
3) Faith that deals with God cannot be good faith.
4) God recognized Abraham's faith and blessed him only when he sacrificed Isaac (Genesis 22:12).
7. Believers who win spiritual warfare
1) The meaning of the name Muthuselah means “man of arms”.
2) The meaning of Lamech is “the powerful, the victor.”
3) We must put on the full armor and become the weapons of God's righteousness to become victors in spiritual battles.
8. Comforter
1) The meaning of Noah’s name is “a person who comforts and comforts the world”.
2) In the days of Noah, people were violent. Violence is a word that expresses that the level of sin has reached its climax. It means that it has reached a point where there is no longer “the righteousness of God” in the world.
3) In a violent world, Noah was the man who made peace and comforted the sinful world with the ark of salvation.
4) In the Bible, Barnabas was the representative person of comfort. He was an authority. He was a mediator between the disciples and Paul.
5) The person who comforts them opens up the gap and builds a relationship.
6) A true righteous person is a comforter, like Noah and Barnabas, who flows the water of life into the sinful world.
