The topic of the day of the Lord in the Old Testament is one of the most important topics. In the original Old Testament, the meaning of the Day of the Lord is a day of joy and a day of festivals. It is the day when God's power is revealed.
Traditionally, in the Old Testament, the Lord's Day was a day of celebration and victory. It has the meaning of the day that God appeared.
However, the prophet Amos changes the meaning of the day of the Lord in Amos 5:18. “Those who long for the day of the LORD, why do you long for the day of the LORD? It is not a day of festivals, but a day of sorrow, and that day is not a day of light, but a day of darkness.” The meaning of this changed day of the Lord is explained in more detail by the prophet Zephaniah.
The day of Jehovah has come to have two meanings. One is the day of victory and the other is the day of judgment.
In Luke 19, which we read today, Jesus enters the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. However, to welcome Jesus, they took off their cloaks and spread them on the donkey that Jesus was riding on, and spread their clothes on the street.
To say that they spread their clothes has the meaning of receiving Jesus as the king of Israel, and when such a king enters Jerusalem, it can be seen that they are treated with utmost respect and at the same time expressing their joy. Therefore, the day Jesus enters into Jerusalem is a day of festivals, and it can be said that it is the day of the Lord where God's power is revealed.
But moving on to verse 41, Jesus came near the city of Jerusalem and looked at the city and wept. And he is telling us that Jerusalem will be surrounded by enemies and will fall. He is saying that it is the day of judgment.
Why is Jesus referring to the day of judgment instead of the day of blessing?
The first reason is, “You have forgotten to be advised.”
This is exactly what John 1:11 says, “When Jesus came to his own land, his people did not receive him.” That's what you're saying.
“In Nineveh, the prophecy that Nineveh would be destroyed in 40 days after Jonah, a man from another nation, came and all the nations repented, from the king to the livestock. Even though I came among you, you did not receive me.”
Therefore, in order for the day of the Lord to be fully established, we must accept Jesus. If you accept Jesus, the day of Jehovah becomes a day of blessing, but if you do not accept Jesus, this day will inevitably become a day of judgment.
The second most important thing is that Jesus cleaned the temple today. To cleanse the temple, He drove out all the people who traded in the temple. The temple is me. To prefer worldly goods and worldly pleasures to God's Word is to fill the temple within me with other worldly things. That is, as the prophet Zephaniah said, they are making the same mistake as the Israelites who forsook God and followed Baal. It is this mistake that has no choice but to turn the day of the festival into a day of sorrow.
The third thing is that the prayer that Hannah earnestly prays for to have a child, the prayer that Elijah earnestly prays for rain when it has not rained for three and a half years, is that such earnest prayer has disappeared in you.
In 1 Samuel 2, God says these words to the priest Eli. “I will honor those who honor me, and those who despise me I will despise.” The essence of these verses is to say, “You have despised my worship.” So he promised that he would never forgive the sins of the priest Eli and the sins of his sons.
Ladies and gentlemen, the time of worship is precious. When we worship with spirit and heart, this day becomes a day of blessing. Conversely, when worship is neglected or neglected, this day turns into a day of judgment.
So Zephaniah says three things. How Can Jehovah's Day Be a Blessing Day? The three are found in Zephaniah 2:3, the first being “Seek the Lord with all your heart.” The second is, “You do justice.” The word “justice” is the Hebrew word for “chatek,” which means trust. It means that you have to trust God and that God can trust you. The third is to be humble. According to the book of Proverbs, walking in humility is synonymous with the fear of God. To be humble is to fear God. To be proud means not to fear God.
Dear saints, today can be a day of blessing. Please seek God for this day to come. Have the Lord in my heart, worship in spirit and in truth, and become a person who is acknowledged to this extent, ‘I know you love me.’ And I pray in the name of the Lord that we will all become humble servants of the Lord.
