Title Fifth Commandment/Exodus 20:1-17
Exodus 20:12 says, 'Honor your father and mother,' and Leviticus 19:3 says, 'Every one of you fear your mother and your father.' In Ephesians, a little differently, we are told to obey your parents in the Lord. All three of these are used interchangeably, which simply means to honor your parents equally. In the Bible, it is said that rebelling against parents is rebellion against God, and that they will be treated like blasphemers and will be punished (Leviticus 24:15). It is also said that his lamp goes out in darkness (Proverbs 20:20) His eyes will be pecked by ravens and eaten by eagles (Proverbs 30:17). This means death. So, what are the 5 commandments?
I. honor your parents
The Bible tells us to 'honor' (Ex 20:12), 'Respect' (Leviticus 19:3), and 'obey' (Eph 6:1). Respect (kabhed) in Hebrew means to be heavy. If we were to translate reverence, reverence, and obedience into other words, we could say that we are grateful, obedient, and supportive. Parents gave birth to and raised their children. We live our lives with the help of our parents. No one can boast that I have grown on my own. So obviously we should thank our parents and remember their grace. The grateful person is next to be obedient. Obedience with a natural heart is pleasing to God. Finally, you need to support your parents. You should help with what you really need, not just applying your lips. This is the way to honor.
II. Be a respected parent
It is important for children to honor their parents, but parents should also strive to be respectable parents. The reason why parents are not respected is because the last days are near, and secondly, because parents are not moral or neglect spiritual training so that they can be respected and respected by their children. This is the responsibility of the parents. Parents have a duty to take care of their children. We need to take care not only physically but also spiritually. Parents also need to educate and train their children, while encouraging and understanding them. Finally, parents must recognize and love their children as human beings.
Ⅲ. Emphasize the importance of home
The fifth commandment is also connected with the 7th, 8th, and 10th commandments. These commandments forbid things that could cause a breakdown in the family. What is the reason for emphasizing the assumption? First, the family is an institution created by God, starting with Adam and Eve. Second, the family has a possessive function. Third, the family has been given responsibility and authority. Finally, the Bible says that the couple is the basic unit of the family.
Let me conclude.
We should know the divinity of the family before God. God gave you a promise that your life will be long when you keep the 5 commandments, and this is God's first promise. There is a promise in the second commandment, but here it is not the first promise of the commandment because it is given to all who love God. But in the 5 commandments, it is a promise given when you keep this commandment well. In the name of the Lord, I earnestly pray that all of you may receive the blessing of prosperity and eternal life on earth by keeping the 5 commandments, the first with a promise.
