Today, on Mother's Day, we are going to think about what filial piety is. There are two institutions God made, one is the family and the other is the church. 1 Timothy 5:4 says, “If any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show filial piety in their own homes, to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.” Anyone who does not take care of his relatives, especially his family, has betrayed the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." It can be confirmed that the Bible strongly asserts and teaches filial piety. If so, let's look at how to practice filial piety.
▶First, we must obey our parents.
Verse 1 of today's text says, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Why does God require obedience? This is because God made it so that when children obey their parents, not only the children but also their parents will benefit their families the most. Jesus acknowledges that even though he is an evil person, he has a heart to give good things to his children. No matter how good you want to give to your children, if you disobey them, you are asking them to obey you, because it will nullify everything.
▶Secondly, why does God require obedience from His children? Because that's how God works.
God established fathers and mothers in the family and said: He said, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." In Luke 2, the story of Jesus' childhood is recorded. Although Jesus is only 12 years old, you can see that he is realizing a surprising truth that his parents did not realize. However, the Bible records Jesus' attitude toward his parents, 'Jesus went down to one place and came to Nazareth, and obeyed him.' Because this is God's way of working. What is wisdom? Please believe that you are obeying the authority that God has established.
▶Third, why should children obey their parents? Because having a good relationship with your parents also affects your relationship with God.
It is very important for parents and children to have a good relationship. This is because it affects the relationship with many people who will live in the future and also the relationship with God. I believe that children who obey are blessed. The Bible tells us to honor our parents. Above all, as children, we should be proud of our parents. You should be grateful to your parents who raised you like this. They also have an obligation to support their parents financially.
▶Fourth, it is important to make the hearts of parents happy in order to honor them well.
In the book of Proverbs it is written, "Rejoice your father and mother, and the mother who gave birth to you." We believe that it is our duty to please our parents. Above all, if you have unbelieving parents, it is the best filial piety to let them know the joy of faith to know God.
