do filial piety now
Ruth 1:12-18
The reason we honor the grace of our parents is because we received life and received grace through them. In China's 'Sohak', a pregnant woman explains the precautions in detail. Shows how much attention you pay to your child from the time you are pregnant. The 10 graces of parents are revealed in the parents' eunjunggyeong. This applies to devoting all of your heart in the womb, enduring the pain of childbirth, rejoicing in a child born, covering food, laying dry, breastfeeding, urinating, and going a long way. It is about worrying about people, not afraid to do bad things for their children, and loving them until they die of old age.
However, there are children who forget this grace and neglect their parents. There is a poem that describes disobedience: “… When my child is joking, I smile and get angry when my parents discipline me. They bring a bag of sweets and give them to their children, but they don't know how to buy a pound of meat for their parents... ”. Children who do not know the grace of their parents do not have the right to receive blessings. There is a saying called 昊天罔極 (昊天罔極), which means that the grace of parents is endless like heaven. Ladies and gentlemen, when our parents are old and need our help or are lonely, remember that we needed them so much when we were young. During the Qin dynasty in China, a man named Baek Yu was often beaten with spears even though he was in a position of authority. Then, one day, Baek-yu, who normally had no tears, shed tears after being hit with a stick. When my mother asked the reason, she said it was because my mother's muscle strength was declining and she was no longer in pain as before.
The Bible promises blessings to those who are filial. “Honor your father and mother” (Matthew 19:19), “Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise” (Ephesians 6:2), “Honor your father and mother… May your life be long on earth” (Exodus 20:12). Toegye Yi Hwang once said, “If even one behavior becomes dizzy, you cannot become pure filial piety.” that there should be no change.
Also, today’s text verse 16 says, “The God of the mother will be my God.” I did. It means that I want to adapt myself to the wishes of my parents rather than my feelings or preferences. There is a saying, 班衣之戱 (banuijihui), which means that a son crawls in a jeogori to please his parents. For the sake of the joy of the parents, even the grown-up children make fun of them. Filial heart is the heart of sacrificing for the sake of the parents who cannot easily enjoy pleasure in whatever they do in old age. Mencius said that if you do not bring joy to your parents, you cannot function as a human being, and if you do not obey your parents, you cannot function as a child. Greet and hug your parents often. Please do not turn away from your parents and pray.
Young people these days only respect their parents if they can help. But today’s text is “… Where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge...” (:16). It's about sacrificing your future for your parents. Filial piety is sacrifice. Whether it's buying a TV or eating delicious food, I've seen people who always take care of their parents first.子欲養而親不待 (子欲養而親不待) means that the child wants to feed, but the parent does not wait. It's not about taking care of things when things get better. Time does not wait for us. You must serve your parents now. In Exodus 20:12 our Lord said, “Honor your father and mother, that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” The Lord blesses those who honor their parents. May such grace be with you and me.
