Although our feet do the most work in our body, they are often not treated and despised. In fact, everything is. However, even if there is scorn, even if you do not know, if you remain faithful to your work and make yourself, one day you will come to know me. Today's text is probably an incident that occurred while Jesus was having dinner in a place presumed to be Mark's upper room.
while eating dinner
Not while sleeping, not during meetings, not on the road, not while eating dinner, not before eating, not after eating. Perhaps because it is more important than making a living, you did this at that time. That's right. There are important things that a person should do while eating or not while eating. Faith is more important than living in this world.
Jesus washing his feet
You have a face and hands, so why did you wash your feet? In the Jewish custom of the time of Jesus, when someone is invited to a banquet house, they first take a bath in their own house so as not to be dishonest. And when they arrived at the banquet house, they only washed their feet. Occasionally, for important guests, the servants washed their feet. We also welcome guests by providing them with water to wash their feet. However, it is not right to attribute the text to Jewish customs.
Why did you wash your feet?
① This shows that you have come to serve.
It is a form of humility Our Jesus left the heavenly throne and came to serve sinners in the form of a servant.
② It means forgiveness of sins and salvation.
Our lives are the ones that must be washed. His death on the cross and the shedding of His precious blood are the blood that washes away our sins, dirtier than our crimson, scarlet, and ink. So Mary washed Jesus' feet with her hair just before he died. It shows that he is the savior.
③ An important step in sharing the gospel
The Lord already knew that in the future, as disciples of Jesus, we would not only serve many people, but also that their feet would become important feet to spread the Gospel.
who has already taken a bath
In fact, if we just took a bath and went back for a while, it would be like washing our feet and sleeping.
Simon Peter's two pleas
① Never wash my feet.
② Wash your hands and hair as well as your feet.
Jesus' Two Answers
① Unless I wash you, you have nothing to do with me.
② Those who have already bathed need only wash their feet.
Those who have already attained salvation by believing in Jesus are guaranteed the kingdom of heaven, but since their lives are incomplete, they go to God by earnestly repenting of their sins and past mistakes every time they think about it.
