We are children of God. As children of God, we experience miracles in our lives like the disciples of Jesus, and even though the joy of meeting the risen Lord is within us, we come to realize that the life of faith is never easy. The reason is that the evil devil constantly tests us, as we can see in the text 5:8.
The first thing we need to know is the tricks of the devil. The devil's trick is to put off work that should be done today until tomorrow. Second, the evil devil prevents us from living as children of God. But what is a blessing to us is that God puts on the whole armor through the Holy Spirit so that we can overcome the temptations of the evil devil. How, then, does the Holy Spirit put on us the whole armor?
The first is to wear the belt of truth. We usually think of a belt as something that keeps our pants from slipping. However, the waist belt referred to in the text is to support the waist, lumbar spine, and spine so that they can stand upright when using force. God has given us the belt of truth through the Holy Spirit. The belt of truth is what keeps it clear that “you are a son or a daughter of God.” It clearly supports the fact that “you belong to God, God’s people, God’s family.” 1 John 4:4 says, “You are of God. God is within you. You are able to overcome the world.” is like a word.
The third is the shoes of peace. It is said that in the war 2,000 years ago, the enemy put his sword in the grass that was advancing. Unknowingly, the soldiers went out on the grass barefoot, and the sword pierced the sole of the foot and came out of the back of the foot. So Roman soldiers wore hard wooden shoes. He tied a string to the tree and tied his feet. The Roman soldiers could then walk safely through the grass without any worries. God gives us shoes of peace so that we can walk the path of life in peace without fear. The gospel of peace enables us to move forward with bold steps on the ground.
The fifth is the helmet of salvation. Our thoughts are very important. We are made righteous and holy by the blood of Jesus Christ. God has put on the shoes of peace and has given us the shield of faith. Wouldn't it be great if these thoughts were always in our heads? But the evil devil constantly instills in us the opposite idea. C.S. Lewis says Satan's strategy in the 20th century is comparative consciousness. Comparison consciousness constantly compares us. As a result, we become disappointed, frustrated, and ultimately helpless. But God has put on us the helmet of salvation. The helmet of salvation serves to protect us so that we can have right thoughts from wrong thoughts. God tells us, “I cherish you the most, I protect you, and I love you.” Put on this helmet of salvation, and I hope that you will overcome all comparisons.
Finally, the Holy Spirit gives us the sword of the Word, the sword of the Spirit. God's word is so precious. Even when Jesus overcame the evil devil, he overcame it with the word. When we are tired and weary, even when fear comes over us, the power to overcome us comes from the Word. When prayer is not answered, we look for the answer in the Word. Through the Word, we can boldly walk the path of faith.
Brothers and sisters, we must put on the full armor of the Holy Spirit. We must wear the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit and the sword of the Word. Then we can live boldly in the world as children of God. I bless you with this grace of the Holy Spirit.
