Title Give thanks to the Lord (Psalm 136)

Contents

Therefore, who is the most mature saint in the sight of God and who is the joy of God? I am a saint who gives thanks for everything. Through today's text, I would like to examine the subject of thanks for what to give thanks to God.

1. Let's give thanks in front of God's disposition and existence. Verses 1-4

The psalmist proclaims the first reason to be most grateful in the text. Because God is good and His mercy endures forever. So now we should thank Jehovah. The important thing here is not because God has done good things, but because God is inherently good and His mercy does not change.

2. Let's give thanks to God who creates and provides. 5-9

We exist in this world because God created it. You created beautiful nature and land. And it is because he leads them according to the order of creation and providence. They say day sun and night moon, not day moon and night sun. The laws of nature don't just happen by chance. It is because God has placed everything properly according to its use. The stars are beautiful not only because of their dazzling light, but also because of the night.

3. Let us give thanks for saving, guiding, and giving us victory. 10-22, 23

And thank God for saving us, guiding us, and giving us victory. Just as the psalmist is thanking God for bringing Israel out of Egypt and keeping them in the wilderness, who delivered them from their enemies and gave them victory. That's right. The Lord has remembered us in our sins. We may have forsaken God, but God remembered us in our lowly sins. Not only that, He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to save us. So how could you not be grateful?

4. Let us thank God for providing us with our needs. 23-26

The God who sent Jesus Christ to save us knows what we need. He is a kind and loving God the Father who knows what we need and what we ask for before we pray. Will God, who gave his only begotten Son, not give us our daily bread? Therefore, we must have this faith today. It means that God will be my provider. Also, if I help the saints with good works, God will supply all our needs.

5. We can approach God with thanksgiving.

When we are thankful like this, we can approach God. This is the second reason we should be grateful.

(Psalm 95:2) Let us come before him with thanksgiving, and let us sing joyfully to him with psalms.

(Psalm 100:4) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; give thanks to him and bless his name.

(Psalm 147:7) Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praises to God with the harp.

When you are grateful, you can turn to God.
