◎ Introduction: Abraham is convinced of God's covenant (a way to overcome fear and disappointment). (1~21)
1. Don't be afraid. (One)
2. Promise to give seed. (2-6)

1. Don't be afraid. (One)
※ “Do not be afraid.” God knew the fear and disappointment in Abraham's heart.
One). God came in a vision and said, (One)
※ God appeared in a vision to comfort Abram and spoke directly.
※ “The word of the Lord” and words such as vision, shield, and reward are used for the first time in the Bible.
* This is the first text in the Bible that uses the phrase “I am ~~~”. (Compare, Ex. 3:14~15)
2). God called Abram, according to his name. (One)
※ “Abram,” I fell to my knees because of God's gentle call, and I gained great courage.
※ When God called Abram by his name, Abram realized that he belonged to God above all else.
found out God took care of Abram and protected him (Isaiah 43:1).
3). God gave us three messages. (One)
① “Do not be afraid” (comfort and courage),
② “I am your shield” (protector, defender),
③ “I am your exceedingly great reward” (reserved supply)
* He provides what he needs, and he is the source of everything he can enjoy.
2. Promise to give seed. (2-6)
※ How could Abraham overcome his fear and disappointment? He spoke of the Word of God, especially the seed of promise.
Because they heard and believed the word of God's promise.
One). Abram's fear and disappointment at not having an heir. (2~3)
※ There was a promise 10 years ago, but Lot passed away, and Abram and Sare were of infertile age.
* Neither the Promised Land nor the Promised Son could be obtained.
※ Abram fell into frustration. The delay in fulfilling his promises made him anxious and weighed down. mentioned three times.
① “I have no children” (2),
② “The Lord gave me no seed” (3),
③ “He who is brought up in my house shall be my heir” (3)
2). The word of God and reassurance. (4-5)
※ God appeared and spoke to Abram once again to reassure him.
※ God corrected Abram. (4)
* He made it clear that he would not be his heir who was brought up in his house, but that his son, who would be born of him, would be his heir.
※ God led Abraham out. (5)
* “Look up to the sky and count the stars, if you can.” He said that his seed would be as numerous as the stars in the sky.
* Every time you look at the stars, you will be comforted and encouraged by the great promises of God.
※ God's promises will surely be fulfilled.
3). He counted the Lord as righteousness through faith. (6)
※ Abram believed the word of God, and the Lord counted his faith as Abram's righteousness. (6)
※ It contains the doctrine of justification that we can be justified in the sight of God through faith (Romans 5:1~25; Gal. 3:1~29; James 2:14-24).
① “Believe” is the first time the word “believe” is used in the Bible.
* Hebrew (
