Genesis 17:15~22 Abraham's Prayer Topic: 14. Prayer 2007. 1. 7.

Introduction

: God reaffirmed the covenant with Abraham,

These are the stages of God's experience that awakens the heart anew (1~27)

It clearly shows that Ishmael is not a descendant of God's promise.

Ishmael was not the seed of promise.

* Abraham needed to awaken his dormant faith once more.

* Abraham needed to receive a new revelation from God. Abraham needed a spiritual awakening.

Steps to awaken our faith and experience a new experience of God (Genesis 17:1~27)

① Receiving a new revelation from God (1)

② We must be prepared to live a perfect life before God (2)

③ Hearing the voice of God (3~5)

④ Hearing God’s promise and believing (6~8)

⑤ The covenant and its ordinances must be kept (9-14)

⑥ Relations with family should be improved (15~18)

⑦ Accepting God’s will and purpose (19~21)

⑧ Obedience to God's Word (22~27)

1. Need to improve relationships with family (15-18)

In order to awaken your faith and have a new experience of God, you must improve your relationship with your family.

Abraham had two conflicts with his wife (Gen. 12:11~16, Pharaoh; Gen. 20:2~18, Abimelech).

One). God exalted his wife (15-16)

① Name your wife “Sarah” (15)

* “Sarah” means princess. She becomes the mother of nations and gives birth to kings.

* “Sarai” means one who quarrels, conflicts, or complains.

* The change from a woman of quarrels and complaints to a princess is a huge change.

② Chosen to bear the seed of promise. (16)

* “I have blessed him” is mentioned twice.

* Blessing 1: Sarah will give birth to a son.

* Blessing 2: You will become the mother of nations. Kings of nations will come out of him.

(Nation is plural: it refers to the descendants of the faith of historical Israel and spiritual Israel, i.e. all those who believed in God, like Abraham.)

2). Abraham worships and prays in amazement (17-18)

Abraham's heart was overflowing with joy.

* A truly self-broken person can have an Abrahamic experience when God fills him with confidence.

At that moment, I knew that Ishmael was no longer the seed of promise, and my relationship with Ishmael had to change.

(Abraham's dreams and hopes for Ishmael were different from God's will)

Abraham immediately prayed that Ishmael would also be blessed.

* Ishmael wanted to live before God. * Love your children. bless your children

2. Accepting God's will and purpose (19-21)

In order to awaken faith and have a new experience of God, we accept God's will and purpose and give ourselves.

* Abraham's dream was with Ishmael. (15~18)

1) Abraham had to clearly know the will and purpose of God.

* We had to voluntarily accept God's will and give ourselves to it.

2) God made His will clear by reaffirming His will and purpose.

① Sarah will give birth to the promised son. (19)

②Name his son “Isaac.” (19)

③ The covenant made with Isaac will become an everlasting covenant. (19)

④Ishmael will receive special blessings according to Abraham’s prayer (20)

* Ishmael will be a great nation that will produce twelve princes, or rulers.

3) The Promised Seed and Promised Land will only be given to Isaac.

God's promised savior will come through the Jews, the descendants of Isaac.

“Salvation is of the Jews” (John 4:22)

4) God specifically set the time of Isaac's birth.

He will be born about a year later (21)

* Take the time to compare Sarah and Mary

3. Obedience to God's Word (22-27)

To awaken faith and have a new experience of God, it is making public decisions and obeying God's Word.

* As soon as God finished speaking to Abraham, Abraham got up and began to act.

* Abraham obeyed the word of God by doing what God had said to all his household.

* Abraham's decision was public, and God's instructions were to include the entire family.
