Title Genesis 18:22~33 One more time~

Gen 18:22~33 One more time~ Topic: 14. Prayer. 2008. 7. 6.

Introduction

: God wanted Abraham to be a spiritual warfare fighter in intercession for others.

God knew exactly what would happen to Sodom before Abraham's intercession.

What was God's purpose in leading Abraham to repeat intercessory prayer?

① “Everyone should become intercessors.”

② “God’s justice must be enforced.”

③ “To become a powerful witness of God.” it is for

1. Ask boldly in front of the Lord. (22-26)

The two went to Sodom, but God stayed there.

Abraham remained before the Lord, and he boldly interceded with the Lord.

“I stood still before the Lord”

The first thing to take precedence in intercession is to stand boldly before the Lord.

One). Abraham draws near to the Lord. (22-23)

“Go closer” (    ) means “Come to court to discuss a case.”

Abraham approached God to pray for everyone in Sodom (like a lawyer).

2). Express interest in the righteous. (24)

In Sodom, Lot, a nephew like Abraham's son, and his family lived in Sodom.

Abraham felt God's heartache for sin and judgment.

Abraham felt the pain of the judgment to come...

Abraham has a heart to share his suffering with the Lord.

① Will God destroy the righteous along with the wicked?

② If there are 50 righteous people here, will God save the city?

3). He acknowledged that he was doing Jehovah's justice. (25)

Abraham did not appeal to God's mercy, but to justice.

Abraham demanded from God that the judge of all the earth should do justice.

In other words, God cannot do that because of His promises.

4). Jehovah answered. (26)

God was just and had to answer Abraham's prayer.

“I will forgive all that has come for them”

God “will not destroy the righteous with the unrighteous or the wicked.” said This is the key.

The basis of our prayers is God's justice.

It is possible by standing boldly before Jehovah and appealing to his justice.

2. Pray humbly before Jehovah. (27-29)

To become a prayer warrior, you must enter into the presence of God.

One). He had a humble attitude before the Lord. (27)

Abraham humbly asked God.

* He confessed that he was nothing but dust. Pay attention.

“Lord” (Adonai     ) is an official title for God.

Abraham is appealing to Jehovah, the Sovereign Ruler and Judge of all the earth.

2). He answered humble questions before the Lord. (28)

Abraham asked if he would save the city if there were 45 righteous people in the city, and the Lord answered Abraham's prayer.

One of the first things we need to do when we pray is to be humble.

3). He continued to answer prayers that did not give up. (29)

How can we become warriors (mediators) of prayer?

: It is possible by praying continuously and not giving up on prayer and asking God.

Abraham asked if he would save even if there were only 40 righteous people in that city, and God answered this prayer as well.

A true intercessor never gives up. (1 Chronicles 16:11, Matt 7:7, 26:41)

3. Pray to the end without losing interest. (30-33)

Abraham continued to intercede four times to save the city before God. Believers should be concerned and persevere in prayer.

One). Waiting with meekness in prayer (31)

He prayed that God would not be angry and continue to listen to him.

Abraham prayed to see if he would save the city even for 30 righteous people. God answered.

2). Boldly praying and waiting (31)

Abraham prayed for 20 righteous people, and God answered them.

3). Abraham waited until the end and prayed one more time (32-33)

The last prayer was whether the city would be saved even for ten righteous people.

God heard even this sixth prayer.

Intercessory prayer is over.

The Lord was gone, and Abraham went home.

Abraham did his best, and God answered each time.

The Bible tells us that if we pray with patience, God will hear and answer us.

(Luke 18L1, Ephesians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
