Title [Genesis 22:15-18] Abraham's Faith
Title: Abraham's Faith
15 The angel of the LORD called a second Abraham from heaven
16 And he said, "As the LORD says, I swear by myself, because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son.
17 I will bless you, and I will make your descendants multiply and multiply like the stars in the sky and like the sand on the seashore, and your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies.
18 And through your offspring all peoples under the heavens will be blessed, because you have obeyed my words.”
Abraham is the father of faith. The Bible testifies that he and his descendants received great blessings by living by faith alone until he was called at the age of 75 (Gen. 12:4) and went to heaven at the age of 175 (Gen. 25:7). Today, as we reflect on Abraham's faith, I hope that we will restore our weakened faith and receive great blessings from believing like Abraham. The event in this text is an important event that summarizes Abraham's faith. It introduces God's command to offer Isaac as a burnt offering to God when he was 100 years old, and Abraham's practice. It can be said that nothing can be done without faith
1. I believed in the power of God.
2. I obeyed God's Word.
Abraham's life was a life of obedience from the start. As recorded in Genesis 12, when God told him to leave, he left his hometown without any regrets. Hebrews 11:8 says, “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a land that he would receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.” It reveals the characteristics of his faith. All the saints who have been called must obey from the beginning of their life of faith. By unconditionally believing and following, you will be blessed. In fact, you will see that new believers are more obedient to the Lord's word. If you feel a little nauseous, you will disobey. The event in the text also focuses on Abraham's obedience. It is the fact that Abraham did not hesitate to obey God's command to offer his only son as a burnt offering. What pleases God the most is obedience. Let's become faithful saints who obey God's word completely and share the blessings that Abraham received.
3. I completely devoted myself to God.
