Genesis 28:10-22 Experience Bethel Theme:36. favor. 2009. 5. 10.

Introduction: Jacob received the Abrahamic covenant from God (Bethel experience).

Jacob was strengthened through fear, shame, loneliness, and want.

1. Jacob's dream (10-15)

2. Jacob's new insight and vows (16-22)

1. Jacob's dream (10-15)

God appeared to fill Jacob's need. This supply is to meet the needs and cravings of life.

One). Jacob's Desperation (10-11)

After stealing the blessing of the firstborn, Jacob was in a desperate situation.

① At the age of 77, Jacob stole the blessings of his father Isaac through lies and fraud. In the midst of this fear and shame, he has to leave home to survive and flee to Haran. (10)

* Fear: Esau threatened to kill him.

* Shame: Considering the number of Abraham's 318 warriors, you can guess the size of his son Isaac's shop. They will know this in an instant, and look at its disgrace, disgrace, and shame.

② I slept in the field overnight on a stone pillow (11)

* He felt a deep sense of loneliness, alone in the field. Think about it. He came from a wealthy family with many

They lived happily together. But now.....

* Jacob had to leave the house naked in order to save his life, leaving behind all his possessions.

* Lowered so that it cannot be lowered any further. This was because of his sin and irresponsibility.

2). God's Ladder: A way was opened between heaven and earth. (12)

There was an illusion of a ladder that stretched out from the ground to the sky.

① The ladder represents the great gorge, or separation, between heaven and earth, that is, between God and man.

② There is a ladder between heaven and earth, and that path is the path that God has provided.

3). Angels of God: They attend between heaven and earth. (12)

As he saw the angels ascend and descend from the earth to the heavens, Jacob's heart was greatly inspired.

Angels ① protect and save him, ② guide and guide him, ③ encourage him,

④ When that glorious day comes, escort him to heaven.

4). Sovereignty of God: He is in control of everything between heaven and the party. (13)

I saw a vision of God present at the top of the ladder in heaven.

* It describes the sovereign rule of God, the supreme power of God.

God’s sovereign power is

① The power to protect all believers from all dangers

② The power to care in the midst of all the failures of the past and all the uncertainties of the future

③ the power to take care of his family and other loved ones while he is away

④ The power to fulfill his promise to Abraham (the Promised Seed and Land)

⑤ The power to preside over all earthly events and to coordinate them for good (Romans 8:28; Phil 2:13)

5). There were the Words and promises of God. (13~15)

Jacob accepted the words of the Lord Himself (Abraham's covenants).

① The promised land of Canaan (the symbol of the kingdom of heaven Genesis 12:1)

② Seed of promise (Many descendants, 14, Genesis 12:2~3)

③ A special seed (Savior of the world, 14, Gen. 12:3)

④ God’s presence, protection, guidance, fulfillment of promises and purposes (15)

2. Jacob's new insight and vows (16-22)

Jacob had a new insight into himself and God.

God was watching over and caring for everything, including the desperate Jacob.

One). They know that the Lord is with them in a very special way. (16)

Jacob, when you are in great need, God will meet you, and now you will be with Jacob, always protect him, and provide for his needs.

Jacob had a new insight, and unlike before, he realized that the Lord is always with him whether he feels it or not.

2). According to Jacob's own experience, Bethel will always be remembered as a special place. (17)

Jacob felt the same way we do about the place where he met us in a special way.

① House of God: That was the house of God (where you can meet God during worship and prayer).

② The gate of heaven: That was the gate of heaven (a place of prayer until God hears and answers)

3). The place needed to be identified as a special place of worship. (18-19)

Whether he was in a deep sleep that night, after waking up, Jacob

① It was dedicated to God as a very special place of worship.

② The place was called Bethel. (Bethel means house of God). (19)

* The nearby city of “Lus” was eventually renamed “Bethel.”

4). Jacob's dedication and vows (20-22)

Jacob needed a new dedication to God and a new vow. (20-22)

* This is the first vow recorded in the Bible.

Out of love and gratitude for God, Jacob voluntarily pledged to follow God in a different way than before.

The reason for the vow is that God has promised to protect and guide him. (20)

Jacob made a vow because of God's promise to protect, feed, and feed him.

Jacob humbly and earnestly requested only life and pure necessities such as bread and clothes.

The three contents of Jacob's vow are (21-22)

① Jehovah, the God of salvation, will always be his God. (21)

② When I come to Bethel, I will always worship God there. (22)

③ From now on, I will definitely give tithes to God. (22)
