Introduction

: Joseph's forgiveness and reconciliation and a wonderful example.

It has been 23 years since one of Jacob's family members was sold into slavery.

Joseph is working for reconciliation

Joseph tested his brothers several times, and through his bitter experiences, he reminds his brothers of the importance of being God's chosen family.

God blessed Joseph's hard work according to God's plan.

The brothers repented of their past sins deep in their hearts. I didn't want to hurt my father again (Genesis 44:30-31).

He did not abandon Benjamin despite the threat of life. (Gen. 44:30-34). He learned a wonderful attitude to sacrifice himself for the sake of his family.

Now is the moment when the truth is revealed. (45:1~28)

Joseph reveals his identity and is preparing the most beautiful place for forgiveness and reconciliation in human history. It is a true example.

1. Joseph confronts his brothers who have been through him (1-3)

Joseph confronted the brothers who had been through him.

A little while ago, Judah made a strong petition for Benjamin's life (Genesis 44:18-34)

①All of them said that they would do the same with Benjamin, even if they had to become slaves.

②I was thinking of sacrificing myself for Benjamin and sharing my destiny.

③ Judas said that he would take the punishment in Benjamin's place.

I am standing in front of my brothers who acted harshly like that.

The sound was so loud that even the Egyptians could hear it. The Egyptians would have informed Pharaoh about this.

4). reveal your identity (3)

“I am Joseph”

5). Brothers shocked and bewildered (3)

The words “I am Joseph” pierced the hearts of the brothers like a dagger.

They were so shocked that they panicked and were speechless.

He treated Joseph kindly to those who were surprised and tried to calm his anxious mind.

* Joseph first asked if his father was still alive. It was a deliberate question.

They have been treated harshly by Joseph,

Now their lives depend on Joseph, the prime minister of Egypt.

Reconciliation is not always possible. But we must not stop our efforts to reconcile.

The first step to peace is to face the person who harmed us.

(Matthew 5:23-24, 18:15, Romans 12:18, Hebrews 12:14)

2. Joseph forgives his brothers (4-8)

The brothers had previously treated Joseph with envy, jealousy, and hatred. That is why he stands in fear.

Joseph forgave his brothers.

Joseph tried to calm them down by bringing them closer.

As they approached, he made it clear that he was “your brother.”

* Joseph was looking for a way of reconciliation by organizing his bitter experiences.

3). Convincing brothers of his forgiveness (5)

① Joseph declared that he had already forgiven his brothers,

② I told my brothers not to worry, because there will be no retaliation.

③ Moreover, he said that there is no need to lament or regret what they did.

④ This is because Joseph completely forgave his brothers.

4). God's hand in every trial (5)

Joseph learned a great lesson through all the bitter experiences.

He is the one chosen to have the Savior, the Seed of Promise, come through the people.

② God chose Joseph to exalt him (8)

* God exalted Joseph by claiming everything for good.

* Result: : Pharaoh's father. Lord of all the houses, ruler of all the land of Egypt. (Relationship between Joseph and Pharaoh of Egypt)

God requires us to forgive those who have offended us and who have done wrong.

God wants us to forgive enough to warn us that we do not forgive others and that God will not forgive us.

(Luke 6:36-37, Matthew 6:14-15, Mark 11:25, Luke 17:4, Ephesians 4:32)
