Bible: Romans 10:13-15
Paul said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you and your household will be saved.” If you believe in Jesus, you will go to heaven; if you do not believe in Jesus, you will go to hell. When our children believe in Jesus, their future can be guaranteed, and when our parents believe in Jesus, we can build a harmonious family. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). In verse 14 of the main text, the word “how” is recorded three times. Focusing on this verse, I try to long for grace while thinking about three things.
First: What do you call it?
“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?” ‘Anyone’. You must call on the name of Jesus to be saved. Except for Jesus Christ, “There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Then who calls on the Lord? You cannot call without faith. Only those who have faith can call, and only those who have been chosen by God can call. However, for those who believe in Jesus, even if they call out loudly or secretly with a small voice, whenever they say ‘Lord, Lord,’ it is a sign of salvation and a condition of answering. I hope that you will become God's people who can quietly say 'Lord, Lord' in our hearts during this time.
Second: How can you believe it?
“How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard” (verse 14). There are people who recommend good things and there are people who recommend bad things. Happiness or unhappiness sometimes depends on which words you listen to. When Paul preached about Jesus, he exclaimed, “Believe in the Lord Jesus!” Christianity is the religion of salvation through faith in Jesus. But how does faith come about? “Faith comes by hearing” (verse 17). “The Bible says, “Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame” (verse 11). Shame here is a word that can be translated into several words. It has several meanings, such as shame, shame, and reproach. But I hope that some of us will not be put to shame because we do not have faith.
Third: How can I hear you?
“How shall they hear without a preacher?” (verse 14). You cannot believe in Jesus without hearing Him. And without faith in Jesus, there is no salvation. Christianity is the religion of salvation through faith in Jesus. Therefore, we must first hear Jesus. You have to listen to have faith. But how can they hear without a preacher? So, who is the preacher? Jesus has made us all preachers. The gospel of the bloody cross was made to be preached through sinners like me. We are all saved by believing in Jesus. Now we all have work to do. It's a shout out. We must preach the gospel of the Lord not only with our lives, but also with our mouths.
