Title Haggai 1:1~15 Build God's Temple
Haggai 1:1~15 Build My Temple Topic: 22. Reconstruction of the Temple. 2012. 2. 26.
◎ Introduction
: About 520 B.C., Haggai's first message was, "These people say, The time has not come to build the house of the Lord" (2). is
The message rebuked the people for self-rationalization (blaming their ancestors).
※ 16 years ago (536 B.C.) King Goraes issued a decree on the return of captivity, and governor Zerubbabel, high priest Joshua, and 50,000 people returned.
※ First, the altar of burnt offering was built and the foundation work of the temple was completed in the spring of the following year. (Jude)
* The Samaritans and other tribes persistently interfered (Ahasuerus, the successor of Cyrus (Ezra 4:6), ordered to stop building propaganda.
* The people of Judah lost their zeal for rebuilding the temple and eventually focused on taking care of their own lives.
* The people of Judah had become accustomed to offering sacrifices on the site of the abandoned temple, and as the years passed, the desire to rebuild the temple faded.
※ Through Haggai, God gave a message calling for the rebuilding of the temple (Hag 1:1~15). The people immediately obeyed.
1. God rebukes the people. (1:1~4)
1) He pointed out the indolence of the people through Haggai. (1~2)
※ God's rebuke is that the rebuilding of the temple was stopped but not resumed.
※ It is said that the people have not yet reached the time of rebuilding the temple because they rationalized their negligence.
In other words, it is said that the suspension of the temple was not their fault, but because God did it.
2) Point out the indolence of the people. (3~4)
※ “This temple is in ruins, is it right for you to live in houses of good quality at this time?” (4)
A “compassionate house” is a “complete house or a luxuriously adorned house”, and a “wasteful house” and a “house of the poor people” is the state of their hearts
indifference) and ingratitude.
※ When I was faced with difficulties from those around me, I used this as an excuse to change my priorities in life and suffered as a result.
※ “My house is in ruins, how can you live in a luxurious place?”
* The most dangerous thing in the lives of God's people is that they focus only on their physical needs while ignoring their relationship with God.
(“Seek first the kingdom and righteousness” Matthew 6:33)
* A lifestyle preoccupied with carnal needs leads to eternal poverty and ruin.
2. The plight of the people. (5-6)
※ What is the life of the people who put aside the rebuilding of the temple and put all their attention and effort into rebuilding and beautifying their homes?
: There was only famine and poverty.
※ “Examine what you have done” (1: 5, 7, 2:15, 18, 18) 5 times
※ If you look at the dirty behavior
① Though you sow much, the harvest is little;
② Even though I eat, I am not full,
③ Even if I drink, I am not satisfied,
④ It is not warm even if you wear it,
⑤ Even if a worker receives a wage, it is put into a bag with a hole in it.
※ Moses said that if we neglect God's work, we will see such results. (Deuteronomy 28:38~45)
3. Why people are in trouble. (1:7-11)
※ By having the people look back on their actions, he realized the reason.
1) You are told to look back on your own actions. (7-8)
※ “You must examine your own deeds” These repeated words are the necessity and urgency of the work.
They had to build the house of God. God will be pleased with it and will be glorified.
※ To “build a temple” is to show them the way of obedience.
※ “Temple” means concern for God, love, devotion, and worship.
※ God is glorified through the obedience of His people. The people will lead a blessed life.
2) The reason for the hardship is a realistic and egocentric attitude to life. (9)
※ Point out that the poverty of the people is the result of their neglect of the temple.
※ They worked hard to meet realistic needs, but they became increasingly destitute and distressed.
※ There is a contrast between “my house” and “one’s house”. The priorities in life are wrong.
3) The result of a self-centered life does not yield the fruits of hard work. (10-11)
※ The result of neglecting the temple of God for prosperity and stability and focusing on real profits was rather an economic disaster.
※ Due to the distorted attitude of life, Hanjae had an impact on people and livestock in addition to grains, grapes, and oil.
When God removes the dew, everything on the earth suffers.
※ “Desolation” (9) and “Hanjae” (11) are in contrast. By revealing the reason for the suffering that a cold disaster occurred in this land due to the desolation of God's temple
Realize the consequences of disobedience.
4. The reaction of the people. (12-15)
※ The people's response to Haggai's message was positive.
1) Heeding the Word of God. (12)
※ The leaders and all the people listened to the prophet's message urging the temple to be built and immediately obeyed God's word.
※ Haggai's message was simple, but all the people were of one mind without different opinions or disputes.
He recognized the voice of God through the message and obeyed with fear.
2) The building of the temple was rebuilt according to the word. (13~15)
※ When the people feared God and obeyed His Word, God was with them.
※ “Angel of the Lord” All true prophets are messengers, but only Haggai is called “an angel of the Lord” in the Bible.
This emphasizes that the message is being delivered with divine authority.
※ “I am with you” is a very short but most important promise of blessing. meaning pain.
※ “Prosperity” is not the absence of difficulties, but the ability to overcome all difficulties.
* Although Joseph went through unspeakable adversity, God was with him and he was able to overcome all difficulties.
The Bible says that Joseph's life "prospered".
※ They resumed construction of the temple, which had been suspended for a long time. I am now free from discouragement and have courage.
※ It had been three weeks since Haggai's first message was delivered. The people immediately obeyed.
