Title/ Hannah's Praise
Text/ 1 Samuel 2:1-10
Hannah's Praise is a great prophetic poem inspired by the Holy Spirit that transcends mere human emotions.
Therefore, Hannah's praise is called "Ode to the Old Testament."
It later becomes a type of Mary's hymn and the setting for the hymn of Zacharias.
This song of Hannah sings of the absolute sovereignty of Jehovah God.
1, Hannah rejoiced in the LORD. verse 1
In 1:15 we see Hannah crying and confessing that I am a sad woman.
But now, I have a son as an answer to prayer, and after offering the son to God as I promised, I am thankful and praising the thrilling joy that comes from the depths of my heart.
Westminster Shorter Catechism Q&A, first question, says, “Man's first and highest end is to glorify God and to enjoy him fully and forever.” We should be able to rejoice and praise God in all circumstances.
We must rejoice in God even in the midst of suffering.
When Stephen was stoned to death while preaching the gospel, his face was like that of an angel, and just before he died, he exclaimed, “Behold, I saw heaven opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God” (Acts 7:56). .
Even looking at the Apostle Paul's prison epistles, they record joyfully praising and praying.
(Hab 3:17-19) I will rejoice in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.”
2, Hannah praised that there is no one holy but God. verse 2
Here, holiness does not simply mean moral and ethical perfection, but it refers to absolute perfection and absolute distinction above all things.
Hannah confesses that Jehovah is the only God even in the turbulent times of worshiping many foreign gods and idols.
"There is no one but the Lord"
When the Jews start learning to speak, the first thing they do is to teach them the “shema” in Deuteronomy 6:4. “Hear, O Israel, our God is one and only Jehovah.”
3, Hannah praised that only God is omnipotent. Section 3-following
“Jehovah is a God of knowledge”
Praise God's omniscience.
Our God knows both the laws of nature and the laws of reason in human society.
“The LORD kills and makes alive; he brings down into the grave and raises up” verse 6
He is the ruler of life and the judge.
Therefore, God “weighs our actions.” Our God weighs people's hearts, actions, and personalities to grasp them thoroughly.
1:6 “And Peninnah, his adversary, provoked him greatly and made him troubled.
As Hannah fell on her face and prayed to God, God weighed her actions.
(James 3:8) “No man can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” Every careless word becomes a spark of war, and every cruel word destroys life.
A pleasant word relieves tension, and a word of love builds success.
Beloved saints, “Peninnah” saddened the hearts of men and brought suffering,
Hannah took all the circumstances that had upset her to God.
(1 Samuel 1:12) "While he prayed long before the LORD"
Although she was mistaken for a drunken woman, she told God about her situation to the end.
God was with him so that we could rejoice and praise him.
He wants us all to be glorified through praise. Amen
