◎ Introduction
: The warning in this text is directed at the coldhearted and unbelievers. Judgment against this is to fail to obtain God's rest.
1. Do not harden your heart (7-11)
2. Beware of unbelief (12)
3. Encourage each other every day (13~19)
1. Do not harden your heart (7-11)
※ “Irsin” Irda is in the present tense. Therefore, the Holy Spirit continues to speak today.
※ After the Jews were released from slavery in Egypt, they committed four grave sins that hardened their hearts during their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
One). They rebelled against God. (8)
※ While wandering in the desert, the people became very thirsty.
① He began to distrust God.
② He began to complain about Moses, the leader whom God had established.
③ He began to regret leaving Egypt.
※ They rebelled against God and did not believe that He would take care of them.
2). They have been testing God for 40 years. (9)
※ When they were wandering in the wilderness, God provided them with food, drink, and daily necessities, and protected them from all the enemies around them. Nevertheless, the people were hardened in heart and distrusted and did not rely on God.
① Testing God: We tested whether God would provide for our needs.
② Prove God: If God proves that they can be accepted by them, they want to follow God only after that.
※ They wanted God to prove themselves, that is, to prove that God was worthy of their trust and loyalty. Serious disbelief, disobedience, and stubbornness.
3). Always headed the wrong way. (10)
※ God promised to provide for their needs, and he did so.
※ They experienced God's care and provision, and they had the glorious promise of a land and rest that God would give them. But they disobeyed and distrusted God for 40 years.
4). They did not know the way of God. (10-11)
① God's way is faith and trust. : If we truly believe in God, our needs are many, and the more trials we experience, the closer we *to God.
* Fellowship with God.
* Trust in God.
* Rely on God.
* Walk with God.
② The result of not knowing God's way is judgment.
*You could not inherit the Promised Land.
* They could not enter into the rest of God.
* I have not received lasting peace and the grace that fills me.
*All died in the wilderness. (Acts 7:51, 28:27, Ro 2:5, Heb 3:13,...Isa 28:12, 30:15, Zechariah 7:11)
2. Beware of unbelief (12)
※ There is a great danger that believers may fall from God.
※ What is “an evil heart that does not believe”?
① A heart far away from God
② A heart that is indifferent to God
③ A heart that rejects God
④ A heart that rebels against God
⑤ A heart that does not believe in God
⑥ A heart that does not trust God and God’s promises
⑦ It refers to the heart that does not follow God according to what He commands.
(Luke 22:67, 24:25, John 3:11, 36, 4:48, 8:24, ... Heb 3:12, 4:11, Jude 5)
3. Encourage each other every day (13~19)
※ Believers should continuously exhort themselves to be on guard against unbelief and sin. The reason is?
One). Because there is not much time left. (13)
※ It exists today and disappears tomorrow. Therefore, we need to exhort one another to believe in Christ and His promises, and to follow Him as He has commanded us. (Ephesians 5:15-16, James 1:10, 1 Pet 1:24..)
2). Because man can become hardened by the deception of sin. (13)
※ The more we sin, the harder a person's heart becomes. The more you sin, the more you become entangled in that sin.
(Smoking, drinking, drug use, sex, curses... things that harm the human body and its personality)
(Psalm 95:8, Proverbs 28:14, 29:1, Romans 2:5, Hebrews 3:13)
3). Salvation is conditional. (14)
※ Salvation requires a firm hold on Christ in order for man to participate with him. It is based on this one simple requirement. (Matthew 10:22, 1 Pet 1:13, 2 Pet 3:17, Revelation 3:11)
4). Because every day is important. (15)
※ We must listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit today, that is, every day.
We must not allow sin to deceive us and harden our hearts.
(2 Corinthians 6:2, Psalm 32:6, 69:13, 95:7, Isaiah 49:8)
5). Because some provoke God. (16)
※ Although some of the people heard the voice of the Holy Spirit, they did not heed the counsel.
They sinned and rebelled against God and did their own will. They angered God because they did not believe or trust God by living as they wanted.
(Numbers 14:11, 23, Deut. 9:7, 31:20, Ps. 78:40,56, 106:7, Isa. 3:8)
6). Because judgment is certain.(17)
※ Those who sinned in Israel were judged. Their bodies fell in the wilderness.
(Rom 5:12, 6:23, 8:6, Proverbs 11:19, Ezek 18:4, James 1:5, Rev 21:8, Gen 2:17, Eze 18:20)
7). Because God judges unbelief. (18)
※ It refers to those who reject Jesus even though they testify that He is the true Savior, and those who turn away from the judgment to come and decide to continue living for the world and self.
(Mark 16:14, John 3:36, 8:24, 16:8-9, Hebrews 3:12, 4:11)
8). They cannot enter because of unbelief. (19)
※ Not believing or not trusting the Lord Jesus Christ and His promises of salvation will forever shut the door of the Promised Land. Unbelief cannot enter the rest of God.
(Matthew 5:20, Mark 10:15, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 15:50, Revelation 21:27)
