Title Hebrews 6:1 - 20
Contents Main text: Hebrews 6:1 - 20
*** Abandon the rudiments of the Way (verses 1-3)
The writer of Hebrews in this text is sorry for the condition that the saints are only breastfed like children. So, now, I urge you to throw away the basics of the Christian way and go to the perfect place. The saints of God must grow in faith so that they can increase their knowledge of God and understand the good will of God more deeply. Wasn't my life up to now a life of narcissism? How hard have you worked to get to know God through Bible study? When was the last time you read a devotional book that challenges your faith?
*** Be diligent to the end (verses 4-12)
*** God's promise to Abraham (verses 13-17)
The text speaks of the need to endure to the end, taking the example of Abraham, who finally received God's promise after waiting for a long time. Abraham waited until he was 100 years old to have his son Isaac, and only after passing the final test of sacrificing Isaac on Mount Moriah, he was able to receive the blessing of God who renews the covenant and promises to fulfill it. When God makes a promise, he always keeps it. He is not capricious as we are, so his will cannot be changed. Are you worried about the future? Are you afraid that God's promise to fill you up is unsatisfactory? No matter what happens, we must not forget God who keeps His promises. And be patient and wait.
*** The certainty of the saints (verses 18-20)
Believers must rely only on the Lord's promise to be with them, knowing that this world cannot give them hope to overcome death. The text compares the certainty of salvation to an anchor. Just as a ship does not sway even in a violent storm because there is an anchor, the salvation of the saints is certain no matter what problems come. How can we be sure of this? Because there is a Lord who went ahead and gave Himself to cleanse the way and wash away sins. When Jesus died on the cross, the veil of the Most Holy of God was torn in two from top to bottom. In this way, the barriers that prevented them from approaching God were broken down. Now we have the hope of glory to go to the God who is beyond the veil in union with Jesus. Let us come to the Lord with joyful hearts and give thanks for this solid hope.
