Title Hebrews 8:1 - 13
Contents Main text: Hebrews 8:1 - 13
*** The true tabernacle (vs. 1-2)
Even though Jesus gave His body to complete everything, He still carries out the work of a priest to intercede for us. Unlike the Levitical priests who served in the tabernacle or temple, Jesus is serving in the true tabernacle of heaven, where he resides. Jesus, who is seated at the right hand of the throne, is acting in the place of all authority, so he intercedes to grant his people whatever they ask of the Father. So, when I pray in the name of Jesus, I can be sure that God is already listening to my prayers. What is burdening my heart right now? I have to trust that all my needs can be met when I leave that burden on Jesus and when Jesus calls it directly to the Father for me.
*** Moses' tent (verses 3-5)
Moses built the tent according to the pattern and shadow of the heavenly things. The tabernacle that was built was a visual teaching material created in strict accordance with God's instructions so that God's people could easily understand God's holy nature and how to receive forgiveness. After all, the only place where we can meet God is in the true tabernacle of heaven, so Moses had to build it exactly according to the image of heaven. However, the saints on this earth no longer need the Holy of Holies. Because I belong to “Christ,” and he raised me up with me and made me sit down with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Is my faith in the Old Testament where I can meet God in a special place? Or is it the freedom to meet God anytime, anywhere, and doing anything? Let's pray earnestly today so that I can experience God's presence more clearly and deeply at home and at work.
*** New Covenant (verses 6-9)
It tells us that the new covenant that Jesus intercedes in the text is far superior to the Old Testament, which will wear out and fade away. Those who read this letter were being tempted to return to the old customs. However, the next chapters 9 and 10 emphasize how powerless the Old Testament is. So, what is the Old Testament error? The law had no power to keep people from sinning. Even when the people saw that God had led them through a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire, they could not keep God's law for them. Even while Moses was on Mount Sinai, they turned away from idols. In the history of God's people, all recorded in detail in the Old Testament, there are still traces of failure despite the mercy of salvation. If we try to keep only religious rules, we too will not be freed from the power of sin. Because my zeal cannot resist the power of sin.
*** The promise of the new covenant (verses 10-13)
There is a better promise for those who believe in Jesus.
The promise is, first, that God's law guides my actions in my heart.
Second, regardless of my status or background in the church, I was able to personally meet God.
Third, my sins are completely forgiven. Let's take a look inside my mind. Can I feel the power of the Holy Spirit to guide me from my sins? Are you experiencing the intimate God who is with you? Is there peace with the forgiveness of sins in my heart? Or I have to ask myself an important question, whether I have ever asked the Lord to take control of my life in my heart.
