Title Hebrews 9:15 - 28
Contents Main text: Hebrews 9:15 - 28
*** The ransom (verse 15)
The word “ransom” was very common in the slave market. This is because when someone wants to buy a slave, he has to pay the ransom to the slave owner so that he can use the slave he owns from then on. The word “redemption” was also used for the life of Jesus who was sacrificed on this earth (Mark 10:45). My sins, which could not be washed away even with the sacrifice of the law, were washed away with the blood of Jesus, set free from sin, and inherit the eternal things of heaven. What a wonderful grace. Giving one's life to others is great, but the fact that Jesus, the Lord of all things, gave his life for me, who is only a slave, is a great event that transcends human common sense. So, what should be my attitude toward sin now? Should I not be willing to glorify God rather than please me? What must I give up in order to reveal the glory of God?
*** Shedding of blood (verses 16-22)
The text explains in various ways the premise that the new covenant is valid only through the shedding of Christ's blood. For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. The sacrifice of animals could no longer be of any help, since the Lord knew that he could save sinful man only by suffering and dying himself. Now we have no other way to obtain God's forgiveness than to thank the Lord for what He has done on the cross and rejoice in the freedom He has given us. Am I realizing and grateful for the wonderful works that Christ has done? Also, do I remember and praise the body that was torn for me and the blood that was shed for me?
*** A better offering (verses 23-26)
It tells how much better Jesus' sacrifice was than it was in Old Testament times. Since Christ sacrificed Himself once for all to take away sins, there is no longer a need to repeat sacrifices as in Old Testament times. As we live in the end times that have already begun, we are approaching the perfect end of all things day by day, and Christ will accomplish all this at the end of “the world.” My sins have been completely forgiven through Christ, and I no longer have to be a slave to sin again. The power of sin is broken. Was I indifferent to fighting temptation and fixing my bad temper? Ask the Lord for help and he will soon make you realize that you no longer need to be a slave to sin.
*** Second Appearance (verses 27-28)
Although Jesus came into the world once, he did not completely go away. Now, when Jesus comes for the second time, He does not come to fight sin, but to fully accomplish the salvation He accomplished on the cross. However, not everyone can enjoy the great joy of salvation. Because Jesus judges all who do not believe. There are many people who know in their head that they will be saved if they believe, but they deny Him in their lives. There are only those who believe in the Lord and wait for Him. These people set their hearts in heaven and worship Him while waiting eagerly for the day they will meet the Lord. If the Lord were to come today, would the Lord be pleased with me then?
