Ephesians 5:1-4

Our silver is like a silkworm making a cocoon.

The silkworm makes its own cocoon with the thread that comes out of its mouth.

When a good thread comes out of the mouth, it stays in a good cocoon.

But when the bad thread comes out of the mouth, it stays in the bad cocoon.

Proverbs 6:2 says, “The words of your mouth have entangled you, and the words of your mouth have taken hold of you.” Our words shape the circumstances of our lives.

When we say negative things, the words make our life environment negative.

That is why our lives become unhappy.

That's right. The unhappiness in our life begins with our negative words.

negative words

The Bible introduces negative words that God hates, and these are the negative words we spit out now. These things make our lives unhappy.

1. Words of disbelief

Luke 1 tells the story of the birth of John the Baptist. In verse 13, we read, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer has been heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call him John.” I prayed, and God answered that prayer and would give me a son.

But in verse 18, when Zacharias heard this, he answered: “How can I know this, because I am old and my wife is old?” He prayed, and God had promised to give him a son, but Zacharias did not believe and said, “How can I have a son?

It was a disbelief.

In verse 19 and below, God shut the mouth of Zacharias, and he suddenly became mute.

He shut the mouth that spit out the words of unbelief.

This is because the words of unbelief become obstacles that stand in the way of God's work.

That's right. Our words of unbelief block God's work.

So those who spit out words of disbelief will never experience the great power of God.

In the end, his life suffers from great misfortune that he has to live on his own without God's help.

2. Words of Complaint

In Numbers 13-14, the sad story of the Israelites returning from the entrance to the Promised Land of Canaan is recorded.

God gave the Israelites the opportunity to enter the promised land of Canaan.

But when the spies came to look around the land, they gave a negative report.

The reaction of the Israelites upon hearing the sound is recorded in 14:1-2 as follows. “The whole congregation lifted up their voices and cried out, and the people wept all night long. All the children of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the congregation said to them, We wish we had died in the land of Egypt or in the wilderness…” They complained to God for giving them a chance to enter the land of blessing.

He said that he would rather die in this wilderness.

We know the results. They literally all died in the wilderness.

They never entered the land of Canaan.

At this time, Caleb and Joshua, who did not complain, and their next generation entered the land of Canaan.

That's right. The words of our complaints take away the blessings of God.

So, those who complain can never taste the blessings God gives them.

In the end, his life suffers from the great misfortune of having to live a barren life without God's blessings.

3. Words of Discord

In Matthew 5:22, Jesus warns us in a strong tone about what we must forbid. “Everyone who is angry with his brother will be judged; whoever calls raga against his brother will be thrown into a synagogue, and whoever calls him a fool will be thrown into the fire of hell.” .

Jesus said that God will judge those who say such things.

First of all, you will suffer the pain of discord, and God will directly touch you.

4. Evil Words

If we look at today's text, verses 3-4, "Fornication, and all uncleanness, and covetousness, do not even call their names among you, as they are fitting for saints, for shabbyism, foolish speech, or slanderous words are not appropriate..." Saying evil things is saying that it is not appropriate for the saints.

Verse 10 says that these words cannot please the Lord.

In other words, these words are not pleasing to the Lord.

Let's change the negative words.

In this way, our negative words bring unhappiness in our lives. So we have to change our words.

You need to replace negative words with positive ones. Then our lives will change.

God's blessing will come.

So how do we change negative words?

1. We must remember God's grace.

The reason we live by saying negative things is because we forget the grace of God we have received.

As you get older, your forgetfulness gets worse. These are typical symptoms of forgetfulness.

When I make a call because I forgot my phone, I hear a sound in the refrigerator.

But what's worrisome is that this happens again and again. I stumbled on the stairs and fell lightly.

I woke up and I don't know if I should go up or down.

I left something on my way to work in the morning, so I hurriedly returned home, but I couldn't remember what I was looking for, so I went out with an umbrella. But the sun is shining all day long.

But the really scary thing is spiritual forgetfulness. Even after receiving God's amazing grace, we quickly forget it.

So I am not grateful and always complain. When faced with a difficult situation, he speaks of disbelief.

That's why I always put negative words in my mouth.

Looking at the process of the Exodus, the Israelites truly experienced God's wonderful grace.

They crossed the Red Sea like land. Manna came down from heaven and ate it every day.

A pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud are now guarding over their heads.

Unfortunately, despite this, his mouth spit out words of disbelief. And they keep complaining.

Why the hell would this happen? It is because of spiritual forgetfulness.

It is to worry and worry about the fire that immediately fell on your feet, and then forget the grace you have received.

It is to worry and worry about the difficult problems of life that are approaching before our eyes, and then forget the grace we have received.

So you spit out negative words.

We must cure spiritual forgetfulness. We must remember the grace of God.

If you always remember God's grace and live, you can be thankful. Then we can change our words.

You can live by saying positive things.

2. We must pray to God.

For our words to change, our prayers must change.

Many Christians pray hard, but still live with negative words in their mouths.

Why? Because prayer is wrong.

1 Timothy 2:1 says: “First of all, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people”.

The first is supplication. This means making an earnest wish.

Second is prayer. This means praying in spiritual communion with God.

Third is Dogo. This word refers to intercession for others.

Fourth, thank you. This is a prayer of thanksgiving for God's grace.

When we say we pray, we focus mainly on supplication. And then I do a lot of drawing.

Such prayers cannot bring about a change in my life. We need to pray a lot here.

Because prayer is a deep conversation with God.

When we have a deep conversation with God, we come to know what is pleasing to God.

You avoid what God hates. If I pray like this, my life will change without me even knowing it.

You will become like God's disposition.

That's right. We must change our prayers.

We need to change prayer-centered prayer into prayer-centered prayer. Then, without even knowing it, I can automatically change the language.

We can reduce negative words that are not pleasing to God and increase the number of positive words that please God.

3. You must work hard.

It is because of deep-rooted habits that we live by saying negative things. We need to change this habit.

If I say negative things, I feel uncomfortable, and if I say positive things, I have to change myself so that I feel comfortable.

To do that, I need to actively seek out positive words and make them a habit for me.

When we make these efforts, our words change.

Negative words can be transformed into positive ones.

Dear all! When we put our trust in Jesus, our words change.

Negative words will decrease and positive words will increase.

When negative words are reduced, the circumstances of our life change.

My life becomes happy. People with me are also happy.

Of course, God is pleased too.

If we want to change the negative words, we need to remember the grace of God.

We need to have a deep spiritual conversation with God.

And specifically, you should try to reduce negative comments.
