John 12:12-19 Hosanna Blessed Theme: 13. Christ 2005. 3. 20.
◎ Introduction: This is a revelation about Jesus as the coming King. Two concepts of the coming are included (right and wrong).
1. Background; Crowds gather for Passover (12)
2. View of Christ ① Wrong view (12~13) ② Right view (14~15)
3. Reactions ① Disciples’ reactions (16) ② People’s reactions (17-18) ③ Religious people’s reactions; despair and anger (19)
☞ Background: Crowds gather to celebrate the Passover (12)
※ “great crowd” (Josephus; recorded over two million) ; Each Passover lamb is 256,000 x 10 (equivalent to ten people). Festive atmosphere.
1. View of Christ
One). Wrong view of Christ (12-13)
※ Jesus is seen as the Savior of the earth who will establish a utopia on this earth for God's people.
This erroneous concept sees Jesus as the conqueror, supplier, generous and passive
① Conqueror ; the one who will overcome the problems of this earth by overcoming all enemies of mankind (the evil one, hunger, disease, poverty)
②Supplier; to give people success, abundance and health, to give them flesh and food to eat;
Who will bless people with all the good things in life.
③Generous and passive; no matter what a person does, he tolerates it only if he is somewhat religious.
Who will allow him to live as he pleases in spite of sin, injustice, and immorality.
※ Things that are overlooked
① The demands of Christ - demanding that all of one's person and property be given to meet the needs of the world (self-denial)
② The spiritual interest of Christ is focused on bringing peace between God and man.
(One). A “great crowd” welcomed - to get all the good things of the earth (King of the earth, considered the Lord of men)
(2). “I came out to meet you” - they didn't just wait for you to come. actively went out
(3). Waving palm branches, they set them before him.
- We welcome Jesus as the great conqueror and powerful savior. ; He will come as king when he comes again
(4). "Hosanna" shouted -
