‘I am thirsty’
John 19:28-29 -
Today is Holy Week. It is also called Palm Sunday. As the Sunday before Easter Sunday, Palm Sunday is a Sunday to meditate on the suffering the Lord suffered for us and deepen the meaning of that suffering. The seven words spoken by the Lord on the cross are called virtual seven words, and I have been thinking of these words every Holy Week. Today, I am going to think about the fifth verse, the verse that I am thirsty. This is the shortest of the seven hypothetical sayings. There are four Greek letters, one word, and two in Korean transliteration. These are the only words of the Lord to express the body and physical pain. These are short, simple, easy words that are not hard to understand. However, this is indeed a paradoxical statement and a tragic statement. Isn't it a paradox that the Creator, who made the heavens and the earth, is thirsty and his lips are burning? Isn't it tragic to hear that the Father's beloved is crying out for thirst? Today, I would like to share grace with you by thinking about the meaning of these words.
1. This is a reversal of the human form of Jesus.
2. This is a reversal of Jesus' suffering.
3. This is a reversal of how Jesus fulfills the Bible.
