Title - If you love your children
Bible - Proverbs 22:1-6
Among the works of O. Henry, there is the following story. A man lost his wife and lived with only his young daughter, but when he goes to work, he only reads the newspaper and his daughter doesn't know anything while studying. I ended up being a street thug. Later, when the girl died and came to the gates of heaven, Peter said that no one like you could enter here, so Jesus' voice was heard.
"no. Let the girl in. But don't let a man like this father who hasn't looked after his children because he's too busy to come in."
Today we worship on Children's Sunday.
All our parents these days have their children on their minds.
In the old days, in difficult times, we almost neglected our children.
However, these days seems to be the time when children are treated as kings.
When it comes to children, parents die.
In fact, you can say that it is a good thing.
But you must know what is truly for your children.
Our parents need to know how educating their children will be a blessing to them in the future.
1. You must instill faith
If we have God-fearing faith, the youth will not fall this way.
Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
The root of all wisdom and understanding is the belief that God lives and the fear of Him.
If you don't fear God, what can't you do?
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is the most important word for the chosen people of Israel, “Hear, Israel, the LORD our God is the only LORD; you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am commanding you shall be in your heart, and you will teach them diligently to your children, and you will preach them when you sit at home, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. You shall put it on the sign, and write it on your doorposts and on your outer door.”
Because the people of Israel thoroughly taught according to these words, even if the nation collapses and they live scattered around the world, their beliefs and traditions have been handed down.
① You must plant Jesus, who became life, in your heart so that you can be born again.
② We must teach the Word diligently and tell the story of the Bible from a young age
③ We must teach prayer
④ Thoroughly teach the importance of church attendance and worship
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Teach a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
2. We must teach love and filial piety
Actually, the Bible doesn't say much about filial piety to parents.
Traditional education in Korea places great importance on filial piety.
The story of the filial piety, Simcheong
But the Bible says many things to love everyone.
It is a message to love those who are especially difficult and in need.
Dear saints,
We must teach our children to love and serve others.
Parents should be examples.
We need to show that we are not only enjoying ourselves, eating and drinking, but sharing and helping those around us. This is truly a good education for your children.
(1 Timothy 5:4) “If any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show filial piety in their own homes, to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.”
3. We must teach honesty and obedience
We need to learn to obey our parents from an early age and fear our parents. When we grow up, we will know how to honor our parents and fear God.
The reason why the world is so chaotic and chaotic today is because children have been allowed to do things their way since they were young.
John Wesley's mother, Susanna Wesley, said from an early age that one must break his stubbornness so as not to be ruthless. It is said that parents who allow their children to do their own thing are people who do the devil's work.
What goes wrong with young people in today's world is because all of them raised their children wrong. Because parents are not exemplary.
<There is no problem child, there are only problem parents >
Praise for praise and harsh punishment for wrongdoing to break self-will and teach obedience.
When a tree grows, it stretches and climbs as it gives direction.
You have to correct it so that you don't go astray when you are young.
Cows are also kicked with their hind paws if their young behave badly while feeding.
Proverbs 29:15 says, “A whip and rebuke give wisdom, but if left alone, a child dishonors its mother.”
Verse 17 says, “Discipline your child, and he will give you peace and give you joy in your heart.”
