I will make the land a waste and a wonder, and the pride of her power will cease, and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, and no one will pass by. You shall know that you are me.
I. text commentary
The prophet Jeremiah has warned of the destruction of Israel according to the word of God's revelation. But they did not listen to the prophet and tried to kill the prophet. Israel's disobedience turned out to be a causeless hatred and persecution of the prophet. Among them, Jeremiah's burning sorrow is confessed as in the text. As life gets harder in our lives, God's children should be the ones who constantly think about the cause of their troubles. We have been redeemed by Jesus Christ through God's unspeakable love, so we need to think deeply about why we are in such trouble. It should not be attributed to lack of resources or the environment, like the people of Israel. Israel was God's chosen people, a people who lived by God's guidance and protection and grace in the history of the Old Testament. ), they did not enjoy the privilege of the covenant people to seek God's help and to enjoy help. They assumed it was a purely diplomatic matter, and they struggled to believe the Prophet's threat.
This can also be applied in our real world. God is with us in the happy and painful times of our lives, and when we look back over the years, we come to realize that God's order has been taken over by restoring ourselves to our place because of God's dealings. Even when we slip out of faith and disobey, we are in God's plan, in God's hands. It's just that you don't feel God's love enough. When we disobey, God grieves for us and intervenes to set us right. Therefore, when you feel troubled, you need to realize God's intervention and look back on your own position. You should be able to reflect on your own life and reflect on yourself.
Israel tried to escape suffering with the help of Egypt, but the Prophet described their efforts as “relying on a rotten staff.” It's something you can't depend on. It was because of their ignorance that they faced a difficult situation.
II. ignorance and misery
If we are in trouble, it is because of God's intervention in God's plan. God does not overlook our afflictions. He wants us to fix our shortcomings and realize it through these sufferings. There are two kinds of ignorance pointed out by the prophet in the text.
A. Do not know God
First, it is ignorance of not knowing God. ‘I know’ means ‘I love you, I worship you. It means 'acknowledge'. But the prophet says that the people of Israel “do not know” God. It means a deep acknowledgment of God in life, not knowledge. Since Israel does not acknowledge that God is the master of history, they are trying to solve the crisis by squeezing wisdom with their strength. So, as a last resort, he sent a prophet to deliver God's warning, but they never listened. An attitude that puts God at the center of life and deeply acknowledges God is desperately needed. “Acknowledging” means accepting that God’s will is an important variable in your life. At such times, when life's trials and tribulations come, thinking about what God's plan is to accomplish through this, and accepting that God's will has been accomplished is an attitude of acknowledging God. If we do not acknowledge God, our entire life will be miserable. We have to look at God's ultimate plan, and it is useless to make every effort with only the tools God has given us.
But when he is constantly in trouble, he becomes a selfish person. And if you easily form enemies by blaming people, and complaining about the environment, you are bound to fall into an even more difficult swamp. But at this time, acknowledge God. If you think about and take interest in what God's will is, your gaze that has stopped on people and the environment is fixed on God. And only by examining the will of God can we face the mirror in which we can honestly look at ourselves. God, who is my life, is good and does not make mistakes. Realizing one's mistakes through a God who has never made a mistake is a blessing enjoyed by those who acknowledge God.
When he realizes that he has disobeyed and has grieved God, he discovers that this is not an accidental act, but that his nature bookmarks him in a form that is easy to disobey God. The afflictions that allow us to see ourselves in the light of God are instruments of praising God. If you do not acknowledge God and fight hardships, you will only go down the road of crime and destroy yourself. Living by acknowledging God is a great asset by saving yourself.
B. Lack of judgment
The text expresses it as “a foolish child without understanding.” The word “without perception” is the Hebrew word sekali, meaning “foolish, foolish, vain.” This is discernment, that is, wisdom. Recognizing God's sovereignty gives us amazing wisdom, enabling us to navigate life wisely, understanding God's ultimate plan and providence. Not being pessimistic about the future, not hating people, looking at life objectively, relying on the Lord, and passing through a stranger.
Ⅲ. Conclusion and application
If you are feeling trouble now, you should think deeply about the cause of this trouble and return to acknowledging God. At that time, let's end our old life and start a new life with the wisdom God gives us. A new life that lives according to God's word, lives in God's love, and asks for God to come in me... Before entering a new year, throwing away all of the old life that was just failure, and enjoying freedom by acknowledging God in everything. I hope to become a saint. 2005-12-21
