Hymns: Chapter 408 (All Chapter 466) 'Wherever I Am'
Meditation: 'I've been trying so hard to be happy, but I've never been happy for even a moment. We sweat, we save, we achieve, but we are still empty. What's wrong? I want to know how to get the happiness that the Bible says.'
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; in all that he does, he prospers (Psalm 1:2-3).
Humans are constantly seeking happiness, but there are many people who cannot say they are happy. The biggest reason is that our view of happiness is often tailored to changing trends or other people's standards. So we are always unhappy. Since satiety is relative, it is natural that you cannot feel it even if you fill it up. So it is easily blown around according to the 'wind' of the world. The Bible says that such a life is like chaff that the wind blows. Such a life is a 'evil life'. The 'evil' referred to in the Bible is not ethical, but a value determined by whether it is filled with God's things or not. If it is filled with God's things, it can become wheat instead of 'hollow chaff'. What are 'God's things' that we need to fill? It is the law of Jehovah, that is, the Word.
Meditating on the Word day and night means that you always reflect on the Word of your life. If you always meditate on the Word and enjoy it while pondering it, you will see yourself that you have not seen before. Its appearance is weak and shabby. Then God begins to appear. Fundamentally, a life that does not know oneself and does not know God is like chaff that is blown by the wind. No matter how much you try to fill yourself up, you cannot be happy. But a life with meditation on the Word is like "a tree planted by streams of water bears fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither." That person is a happy person. Do not look for happiness in the wind that blows it. I hope you will find true happiness in the meditation of the Word.
Prayer: Loving Lord who wants us to be happy! I want to enjoy the true happiness that comes from the Word. Help me not to be shaken by the values of the world. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
