As you may know, our church holds a morning service every day except Mondays. Some people still call it morning prayer, but our church calls it morning worship. The reason is the intention to differentiate it from early morning prayer in Korea. This is because I think that there are many problems with early morning prayer, which has become like a symbol of the Korean church and attracts the attention of the global church.
Although the fundamental question of what prayer is cannot be dealt with here, the basis of prayer is to communicate with the Lord, and to be diligent in prayer is for a deeper relationship with the Lord. There are many ups and downs and superstitious aspects. There is a problem with the tradition of early morning prayer, which has become more important than God, the object of prayer, to “hope” (so-called prayer subject). It can be said that it is an example that the most people participate in early morning prayer during the entrance exam season. It cannot be said that it is wrong to pray for your children's entrance exams, and this is also an aspect of faith, but the problem is that when this becomes the center, there is no choice but to say that it is a faith of ups and downs. Because greed-centered faith, even if offered in the name of Christ, is closer to the tradition of worshiping Baal than it is to the right tradition of believing in Jehovah.
I think that responsibility lies with the leaders rather than the members of the participating church members, but the uniform spirituality formed by insisting on the absolute value of early morning prayer contributes to the easy condemnation and judgment of other religions by the Korean church (?). I think it is true that it has encouraged the unhealthy zeal of Christians.
So, I invite you to the morning worship service for the first two weeks of this Advent. Advent is the beginning of the new year according to the church calendar, and it is a precious season while praying and waiting for the coming of the Lord. In the meantime, I have been learning contemplative prayer little by little in the morning worship. As we approach Advent, I would like to learn more about prayer through the most important textbook, the Psalms. The prayer of the Psalms is a valuable textbook for discovering where prayer comes from, that is, the foundation of prayer. I hope we can do it together. We will introduce the use of the Bible daily, and we will also give you a Bible daily designed so that you can read the Bible alone for the rest of your life and pray every day. In addition, praying together as a community will be of great significance. You will also be able to experience the precious value of praying together for the peace of your brothers and sisters, your family, your church, and your country.
From November 28th to December 10th, it will be served Monday-Saturday at 6am.
