Bible: Matthew 4:3-4
Title: Written
Matthew 4:3-4 ‘3. The tempter came to Jesus and said, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." 4 Jesus answered, "It is written, Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. You said you will live.” - Amen.
The text tells us that Jesus was tempted by the devil in a state of hunger after fasting and praying in the wilderness for 40 days as the first step toward carrying out the task of the Messiah. We learn several important lessons from this account. If there is an unusually used text in the main text, it is the word <Written>, which I would like to use as the title.
1. The Devil also tempted the Son of God
This fact should be accepted as a surprising fact as human sinners. Jesus was already the Son of God, who was able to overcome the devil, but the devil tried to overthrow it, so our observation is necessary. Our inspiration here is that no matter how well we believe, no matter how tradition, the test continues. Anyone who is neglected will inevitably fall into the temptation of the devil, so we must always keep the tension for spiritual warfare.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober and watchful, your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray that you may not fall into temptation…”
The existence of the devil was one of the archangels created by God, but he was abandoned while resisting God. Under his control, many angels became demons, making the world evil, empty, and defiled. Its activity continues until the end of the world. Therefore, on the day the Lord comes, it is said that the devil and his angels will be thrown into the lake of hellfire (Revelation 20:2-3).
2. Only the Bible can help you win
Jesus was tempted by the devil in three ways: to turn stones into bread, to jump from the top of the temple, and to give glory to the world if we worshiped the devil himself. He overcame the devil with the Word of God, which was written in all of these temptations the word promised in the Old Testament.
If you look at the contents of verses 1-11 of this chapter, He says, “It is written.” The devil also tried to attach the Bible to him. The great heresy in the history of Christianity has always persecuted and shook the church, ignoring God's whole will by interpreting the Bible in such a subjective way.
Jesus defeated the devil with the authority of the words, It is written. There are heresies that sometimes beat people to death by beating them out because they say they cast out demons.
In the last days, the Bible reveals that the suffering caused by the devil will be more severe than physical suffering due to spiritual corruption. So-called 666, the devil's temptation is said to make people uncomfortable.
Revelation 14:11 "...and anyone who worships his image and receives the mark of his name will find no rest day or night."
Among the characteristics of the last days, the biggest problem in the church is that they will leave the Word of God and become absolutely poor in spirit and be tempted by the devil.
Amos 8:11 “Behold, the days are coming, saith the Sovereign GOD, that I will send a famine upon the land, not a hunger for food, nor a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the word of the Lord.”
God has not changed and has overcome the temptations of Jesus with the words spoken in the Old Testament times, and I believe that the Old and New Testaments are the words of eternal God's power and life-giving words that allow us to overcome today's temptations.
I pray that you and I will overcome the temptations and challenges of the devil by using the Bible truth, which is guaranteed to us and saves us in this last age when human speech seems to prevail, as a watchman that guards our lips every day.
