Title Isaac's Family / Genesis 24:61-7

Contents Isaac's family / Genesis 24:61-7

Isaac was the son of Abraham when he was 100 years old. When he lost his mother Sarah and was drowning in the depths of his life, Abraham sent Eliezer to Mesopotamia, his hometown, to bring his bride Rebekah from Batdam Aram for the marriage of his son. It is a tree. The Bible expresses this to Isaac, who has established a new family. "Isaac brought Rebekah into the tent of her mother Sarah, and she took her and took her as a wife, and loved her, and Isaac found comfort after her mother's superiors." What is Isaac's family like?

1. It is a family made according to God's promises.

Older Abraham sent his servant to find a mate for his son Isaac, and he made several requests. “You shall not seek a bride from among the Canaanites, who do not know God, but you shall choose a wife from the peoples of my hometown, and the God of heaven has said, ‘I will give this land to your descendants, and he will send an angel before you. There you shall take a wife for my son."

Abraham believed God's promise.. His descendants promised countless things like the stars in the sky and the sand of the earth. And the servant obeyed his master's command, and he met and brought Rebekah, a beautiful bride of faith, from Paddan Aram. This was the family that God had given in the Lord. The family of believers who believe is the family that God puts together in this way. Because of this, he said that families who are married by faith in the Lord cannot share. The reason is that God has joined them together (Mark 10:9). Also, it is reasonable for a believer to refrain from marrying an unbeliever.

2. It was a family united by faith.

Isaac was the husband of faith. He was an obedient son when his father Abraham offered him as a sacrifice at the altar of Mount Moriah, and he lived his life as a meek and humble personality. Because of this, he yielded to the Philistines and took the well that he dug three times, and withdrew, and his faith in this character allowed him to live his 180-year-old life without major mistakes.

Rebekah was also the wife of faith. The character of his faith can be seen in the incident where Abraham's servant and camels fetched water from the well at the well of the city four days away from Paddan Aram, and in the image of his determination to follow Abraham's servant to Abraham's family. Therefore, their home was a happy home made of love and trust.

1) Rebekah was a wife of great comfort to Isaac after his mother's boss.

F. Bacon said, "A wife is a lover to young men, a friend to middle age, and a nurse in old age." We all thank God for giving us a happy family through love and trust between husband and wife, and we should cherish each other.

2) They are a family that respected each other's manners.

In today's text verses 64-65, it is said that during the scene of their first meeting (Rebekah lifted her eyes and saw Isaac, got down from the camel... and took a veil and covered herself). In a family of faith, courtesy between husband and wife is very precious.

(1) Respect each other - I have to remember that I am becoming a proud member of society because of my wife (husband).

(2) If you try to fit me, it will fail. - It is said that a wife (husband) who does not want to be a perfect wife (husband) is the most perfect person.

(3) The wife told her husband to submit (in the Lord). - A virtuous wife moves her husband according to her will by obedience.

(4) Husbands must yield and love their wives.

(5) There must be a dialogue.

(6) Serve the parents of both families well.

(7) A neat appearance must be maintained.

3) Isaac was a monogamous family all his life.

A believer cannot have any other relationship than husband and wife (Mal. 2:15). It is said that God gave a wife, even if the spirit was present, for the sake of godly children. When someone other than the parents intervenes, the couple's trust is broken, and this is a lifelong scar that cannot be repaired.

3. Wherever we prayed, we first built an altar.

After waiting 20 years without children after marriage, they prayed and finally got twins Esau and Jacob (25:19-26). And wherever he went, he first built an altar and then set up a tent next to it.

It means worship-centered, church-centered life, and it means faith to build one's house. A family of faith should always be the center of worship. And you need to know how to build your own house. Among the saints, if they know how to build an altar to God but fail to build their own house, they will rather obscure the glory of God. (1) material self-reliance (2) children's education (3) church service to build a family.

4. It was a family recognized by neighbors.

They praised the Philistine king Abimelech and said, "I saw that God was with me." You need to be recognized by your neighbors. Where is our home?
