Isaiah 58:1~14 Life that pleases God Topic: 44. Life. 2006. 4. 9.

Introduction

: These are the words of a life that is pleasing to God.

(Historical background: the time when the prophet was active before the Babylonian captivity)

Through the prophet, God reveals the faults and sins of Israel, revealing the true

He tells what fasting and Sabbath observance (real life of faith) are like.

1. True fasting (1-9)

2. True Faith (9-12)

3. True Sabbath Observance (13-14)

1. True fasting - formal critique of faith (1~3)

In this text, what the prophet intensively criticizes is formal faith.

The law formally mandated fasting on July 10 every year during the annual atonement. by fasting

I had to torture myself. (Le 16:29-31)

Point out how fasting changed at that time, and shout out what kind of true fasting is pleasing to God. (One)

One). The reality of distorted religious life. (2~3)

The transgressions of Israel and the sins of the house of Jacob are being revealed in detail. (2)

①I enjoyed seeking God every day and knowing the way. (Actually, I wasn't interested)

② I asked God for a righteous judgment. (I asked for judgment as if I had no hesitation at all)

③ He enjoyed being close to God. (complaining about non-response of ritual acts)

2). God's response to the people's complaints (3~5)

Three Points of God Regarding Fasting

①I found entertainment and got it. (Fasting is a duty, the real desire of the inner world pursued)

② He did all sorts of things. (He carries heavy burdens while fasting, hoping for mercy)

③ They quarreled and fought and struck each other with evil fists (we fought each other with our selfish nature)

Even if we only observe the rituals formally without deep reflection on what and why we fast, it cannot be a true fast that can be accepted by God.

3). Fasting pleasing to God (6-7)

(One). It is to establish social justice.(6)

① Loosen the bondage of evil.

② Break the cord of the yoke.

③ Freeing the oppressed

④ Break all yokes (heavy loads)

(2). Doing righteousness in personal life. (7)

① Handing out plants to the hungry

② Bringing poor people into their homes

③ If you see a naked person, put it on

④ It does not hide itself by avoiding bone and flesh.

4). Blessings according to true fasting (8-9)

① Just as the bright sunlight of the morning illuminates all four sides of the earth, a glorious era will unfold.

② It is that the wounds of Israel that have been harmed will be healed and restored.

③ When we live according to the will of God, righteousness will guide Israel, and the glory of the Lord will escort Israel.

④ It is God's immediate answer to Israel's prayer. (before 9)

Lesson: When it comes to answering prayers, it's the fact that how long and how loud you cry doesn't determine the answer to your prayers. * What is important is not the cry itself, but the attitude of the cryer

2. Life of True Faith (9~12)

One). The negative side: “Don’t do it” (out of 9)

① Lifting the yoke: The act of placing an unreasonably heavy burden on others for one’s own benefit.

② Pointing the finger: An act of despising and ignoring other brothers.

③ To speak in vain: to speak evil in order to slander a brother

2). active aspect; “Do” (10)

① Sympathy for the hungry

* Fully understand the position of the “hungry” (the poor and needy) and help them.

* It means to envelop them wholeheartedly with spiritual compassion.

* When he has mercy on his brother, he himself will be able to receive mercy from God.

② Satisfying the heart of the afflicted

* Do not turn away from your brothers who are in trouble, but please join them in their troubles and overcome difficulties together to make their hearts happy.

Those who truly believe are those who do what God forbids and commands.

3) Blessings according to the life of true faith (10~12)

①Leaving in the darkness of despair and failure, you will live a life full of hope. (10th)

② Be guided by the Lord to always be satisfied, secure, and prosperous (11)

③ All areas of life that have been destroyed and devastated will be restored. (12)

We will live a life of restoration, in which destruction, collapse, and devastation will disappear, and we will be built, built, and restored. So he will be given the honorary title of "He who repairs the broken ground" or "He who makes the way into a dwelling place" by the people.

3. True Sabbath Observance (13-14)

An important factor that characterizes God's people is Sabbath observance

Background: Rather than fully dedicating the Sabbath to God, each individual followed his own livelihood and entertainment with sacrifices.

One). Lesson :

(One). What to do: Consider that day a joyful and honorable day. (True Sabbath observance)

(2). don't do it

① You must not walk in your own way.

② You must not engage in entertainment by forbidding your feet.

③ Don't say personal things. (Focus on His glory )

2). blessing ;

① Holy spiritual enjoyment was guaranteed.

② Raised up high on the earth (I will stand in a famous and prominent position in the world)

③ You will be brought up in the inheritance of your ancestor Jacob (the land of the inheritance promised to Jacob)
