Title Jacob (Genesis 28:10-19)
Contents
Why are we living in this age and wanting to think about Jacob, who lived thousands of years ago, who is neither the present nor the Korean?
Why would God write in the Bible a man named Jacob, who was neither a present-day person nor a Korean, but lived in the Middle East thousands of years ago, and told him to read, understand, and study it?
The reason is this
God chooses a certain person and the principle of guiding that person's faith is different in Jacob's time and ours today, but the fundamental principle that guides people is the same. The road to run is shown there
God does this to this person and does not do that to that person. The principle by which God guides people is the same.
When we go to a certain area, Jacob is the map of faith, just as the person who has been there first draws a map and can easily go there.
1, I have the faith of Beersheba
Beersheba is the birthplace of Jacob. What was Jacob's faith in Beersheba?
1) He was protected by his father.
Just as Jacob grew up with the protection of his parents' faith in his hometown, there are people in our church who are growing like that.
Such a saint cannot keep his religious life without someone to protect him.
2) inherited a lineage of faith
Jacob's faith was born of good faith parents
The disadvantage of this kind of faith is that it tends to do well on Sundays, but not well for the duties of believers
It should be noted that there are cases when the life of tithing and the life of gratitude do not go well.
3) It was the faith I heard from my father
The father Isaac is a symbol of the law, while the mother Rebekah is a symbol of grace.
The mother of our saints is Jerusalem
(Galatians 4:26) “But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.”
Just as children miss their mother's arms and live, the saints who have been blessed live longing for Jerusalem.
2, there is the faith of Bethel
Bethel is the house of Uncle Esau, who told Jacob to be afraid of his brother after he cheated on his father and cheated on his brother
This is where Mangada fell asleep on a stone and met God.
In this Jacob brought about a remarkable change of faith.
1) I met God directly
Genesis 28:11-12 "The sun was setting in a place, and he took a stone from there and cut it down to lodge there.
He laid down and slept there, and in his dream, he saw a ladder standing on the ground, the top of which reached the sky.
And I saw angels of God ascending and descending on it."
Jacob met God himself while sleeping on a stone pillow in Bethel.
2) received a covenant
(Genesis 28:13-15) "I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you lie, and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and spread from east to west and north to south; and all peoples of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. I will keep you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land, and I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Bethel was the place where God's covenant was directly received.
The Bible is opened to those in Bethel
Bethel must be opened to live a life of spiritual grace
3) There was a divine history
What is a Spirit?
to become a god
1 Peter 2:1 “Therefore, putting away all malice, and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all slander,
Like newborns, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that through it you may grow up to salvation.”
(1 Peter 2:5) "You also, like living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."
The spiritual wet teaches the word, and the spiritual house points to the church.
Therefore, there is no spirit without the work of Bethel.
What is the history of Bethel?
It is a direct encounter with God,
3, there is a saint who has fallen in Haran
1) Married
Jacob got a wife in Haran
2) have children
gave birth to 12 children
3) has been rejected
It's easy to forget Bethel when you get rich
People say that they believe in Jesus when they are rich, in other words, they say that they earn money and seek Bethel, but when they are rich, it is difficult to find Bethel.
When this happens, Haran saints comfort Bethel saints
'I've done it all in the past', but faith is now, not in the past
The saints who fell to Haran live without knowing that the faith of Gagi has been destroyed.
4, you must go up to Bethel
There are many things to overcome to go up to Bethel.
1) You must defeat Laban
2) You have to beat the family
3) Must win business
4) Yabbok must be defeated
To find first love, first grace, you must break the path of the Yabbok River. It is not easy to restore gifts, abilities, and fellowship with God.
To find the God of Bethel, you must leave Haran and go up to Bethel.
conclusion
In Genesis 35, Jacob goes up to Bethel and there are things to organize.
1) I forgot my idol
2) I repented (cleansed)
3) Changed clothes (behavior)
I buried it under the oak tree and went up to Bethel.
