Let's talk now (James 3:1-12)

It is said that Aesop, a Greek fable writer, was a slave to the philosopher Cuzantus in Samos around the 6th century B.C. He is known for his great intelligence and wisdom, and while he was loved by his master, one day the master asked the following question to test Aesop's wisdom. "What is the most precious and best thing in the world?" Aesop answered, "The tongue of man," explaining that the tongue is an organ through which truth and reason can be expressed.

When the master again asked, "What do you think is the worst thing in the world?" Aesop also answered "a man's tongue," explaining that the tongue becomes an organ that can be used as a tool to slander and slander others.

In other words, the tongue can be a good thing or a bad thing.

In the Talmud, the story goes something like this: A merchant shouted that he was selling wisdom on the market floor. The wisdom of a person's secret to being successful and living happily is in himself. Many people gathered to buy the wisdom and urged them to speak quickly. The merchant takes all the money up front, collects it, says, "Be careful," and then you go. That's right. Being careful with your words is wisdom. "The speech of this tongue" is a privilege given to man, but at the same time it is a part of a heavy responsibility. Because once a word goes out, it never comes back.

Words are like arrows.

Words are also out of control, and there is a saying that an agent's fire is out of control, but once you vomit it, it's out of control like a fire spreading through dry grass. Therefore, according to the old saying, there are three things that do not return: arrows shot, words spit, and missed opportunities. Once a word is vomited, it cannot be taken back.

Words are like spilled water.

Horses flow like water, not stagnant in one place. Words are water in the sense that once you pour them out, you can't pick them up. Because once a word has come out of your mouth, it cannot be undone or denied.

Once a word is spoken, it cannot be taken back. Just as milk that has been spilled on the ground cannot be put back into a bottle, and a bullet that has left its muzzle cannot be picked up again, so a word that has been left by the play of the tongue cannot be recovered.

The Bible says in Ephesians 4:25, "Therefore, putting away falsehood, let each one speak the truth with his neighbor."

What is "a lie"? "To tell a lie/ to deceive/ to break a promise/ to not tell the truth.

Once you lie and make a mistake, then you lie to justify the lie, then you lie again to hide the lie from being exposed, and in the end, you lie to get the lie to be recognized as the truth. is. "Honesty is the best policy" means that an honest tongue prospers all life.

Luther said, "Words are like snowflakes."

Snowflakes the size of a fist are lit up more and more as you roll them over the snow, and at last, like a big house toppling down and people being crushed, the words grow while rolling from mouth to ear and from ear to mouth, until they finally create an absurd monster. will be

There is a saying called 一魚之濁水. It means that one meat makes the whole water cloudy, but there are many cases where churches, businesses, and homes are plagued with measles because one person is not careful with his tongue and makes a mistake.

There is a saying, "A word does not come out of one's mouth, but goes into the ears of a thousand." In the words of the rabbis, "The tongue does not have a hand, but it kills people like a person with hands. The hand only kills at a close range, but the tongue can kill a person from a distance like an arrow." As the saying goes, "言無足而千里行" (Eonmu go for a thousand miles), a horse without feet even travels a thousand miles, killing people and slandering people.

Morgan Break published a very impressive article, and the content is as follows.

"I have the power and the skill to inflict lethal blows. I can win without killing. I can destroy homes, churches and nations. I have destroyed the lives of millions of people. I travel on the wings of the wind. No matter how innocent one is to me, I despise truth and justice and love I have my victims in all history and all over the world I have more my slaves than the sand of the sea I have never forgotten I do not, and I never forgive. My name is slander."

I think it's a good description of how amazingly destructive our tongue is.

The tongue is killing more people than weapons of war.

There will be more people in the world who have died from the poison of men than from the guns and swords of war.

The poet, “De Yi,” said:

[Before you speak, go through the 3 golden gates.

Here are the 3 golden gates you must pass through.

The first question is, “Is it true?” The second question is, “Is it necessary?” Let your heart answer the truth. And lastly, "Is it a kind word?". If it came to your mouth through these three gates, no matter what the outcome of those words, don't worry, shout it out loud]. That said, always think carefully.

There is a Korean proverb that says, “Exhale with your breath and don’t speak your words” (meaning to be careful with your words out of your mouth).

The Bible says, Proverbs 13:3, "He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips brings destruction."

Proverbs 21:23 "He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble."

1 Peter 3:10 “He who loves life and desires to see good days, keep his tongue from speaking evil, and let no deceit be with the lips.

The fish are not careful with their mouths and are caught fishing. People often get caught up in the words they spit out.

He went to the mountain and saw the mountain and screamed and saw it. Words do not go to the other person. It comes back as I say, as if it comes back like a mountain ring. No matter how much you see other people's evil, it doesn't make that person unhappy, it comes back to the person who said it, the person who ridicules the family, and the person who criticizes it. Therefore, we believe that we should have good words. The more prosperous, the more prosperous, the more blessed and used, the better they take care of their mouths and send out good things.

Jonathan Edwards confessed at the Lord's Supper:

“I have made a solemn covenant with my Savior today, that he gave himself wholly for me, so I surrender myself completely to him. Therefore my eyes are not squinting with lust, but seek the truth as the eyes of Christ, My two ears are not attracted to unclean proposals, but to listen to the words of my Savior Jesus, my hands will not touch unclean things, the palms of my palms will be engraved with the name of God, my feet will not walk in ungodly ways, but before my God I walk the path meekly and sweetly."

Ladies and gentlemen, a person can become a good person when the members do good things for them. When you manage these members well, glory will follow your body. Let's talk from now on! Yes, it's time to talk. Amen.

Psalm 141:3 "Set a watch before my mouth, O LORD, and guard the door of my lips", Micah 7:5 "Keep the door of your mouth", Exodus 13:19 "Let the law of the LORD be in your mouth." do it," he says. Let's rule our mouths with the Bible!

I pray that all of us take good care of our mouths so that we can become “perfect people” in the text in Jesus, and that the road will be blessed. -  Amen
