Title Job 42:1-9 Job's Repentance

Job 42:1~9 Job's Repentance Topic: 14. Repentance. 2012. 6. 17.

Introduction

: Job's repentance led to the restoration of Job, and the Book of Job ends with God's grace pouring down on him abundantly.

The subject of the book of Job teaches that man's service to God is not to obtain any reward from God.

Job's friends, who held the view that causality is God's justice and that God's work can be measured through this logic, were condemned.

Since God is the Great Sovereign of the universe, who manages everything according to his own pleasure, no matter what situation man is in, he has to deal with it.

It teaches us that we must trust and worship God without any knowledge, and that we must rely on Him even when we cannot understand Him.

1. Job's repentance. (1-6)

When God's second word was finished, Job was completely overwhelmed by the power and majesty of the Creator.

1) Confess your ignorance. (1~3)

In the first answer, Job covered his mouth and would not say anything, but God demanded an answer.

By asking questions related to creation, by awakening to the infinite power and majesty, and the free providence that is not subject to any restrictions,

It was for Job to confess his ignorance and repent.

(1) He acknowledged the infallibility of God. (2)

We realize anew that God is the ‘Almighty One’ who can do everything according to his wishes.

Face-to-face with God, through one's own vivid experience, deep in his heart, he acknowledges his invincibility.

Job's confession reveals how foolish and wrong it was to question God's sovereignty over the world and His justice.

will admit it

(2) He confessed his ignorance. (3)

“Who has darkened his thoughts with ignorant words?” (Job 38:2). Job finally realized the true meaning of this question.

It was a clear answer to God.

In the course of arguing with the three friends, I spoke lengthily about this and that, but now that I see it, I am ignorant as if I knew things outside of my authority and wisdom.

judged and said.

He even brought God to court and accused him of wanting to defend himself, but now he has realized that it is all about ignorance.

2) Repentance in dust and ashes. (4-6)

God is answering the words “Answer me like a general manager” (Job 38:3; 40:7) (4-6)

First, I knelt down to God with a very humble attitude of submission. (4)

* Now Job is not speaking in a defiant tone to God, but in an attitude of complete submission to God, trusting God completely and obeying God’s word.

Say you will obey

Now, with an attitude of submission, Job confesses his change. (5)

* Up until now, Job had traditionally heard the knowledge about God and made it his own faith, but now he

I experienced it and had a different level of faith.

“With my eyes I see you” does not mean that Job witnessed the appearance of God with his own eyes, but that he experienced His presence.

Now, Job has sublimated from the faith he heard by ear to the faith of experience.

disappeared in an instant.

* For contemplatives to see God, it is not the manifestation of God, but the experience of God's presence.

After realizing the greatness of God and his smile, Job truly repented. (6)

The sins that Job realized were

① To put forward one's own righteousness before God.

② He downgraded God as his opponent.

③ Having doubts about God’s rule and justice.

④ He wished to die by himself.

⑤ blaming your friends

He showed a completely different attitude in a situation where nothing had changed. (6)

* Job, who grieved for the disaster that had come upon him, cast doubt on God, and complained with harsh words, now experienced God and gained new understanding.

He came to see his sin.

2. Job's intercessory sacrifice. (7~9)

To Job who confessed and repented, God called “My Servant” (4 times) to restore him from the suspicion and condemnation he had received from his friends.

Job offered a sacrifice of intercession for the three friends who were condemned by God with the worldly authority granted by God.

In this way they were pardoned for “their sins of speaking injustice.”

1) Job's three friends are rebuked by God. (7-8)

After finishing his conversation with the repentant Job, he pays attention to Job's three friends.

① What the three friends said is not right. (7)

* “What you have spoken of me is not right, as my servant Job said.”

*
