John 10:11-21 The Good Shepherd Topic: 36. Shepherd. 2009. 10. 25.
◎ Introduction
: God promised to send a shepherd to save and care for His people.
(Isa 40:10-11, Eze 34:22-23,..)
※ Jesus is ① the Good Shepherd (John 10:11,15),
②The Great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20~21),
③ Shepherd and overseer (1 Peter 2:25),
④ He is the chief shepherd (1 Peter 5:4).
※ It should be noted that the Bible also calls God a shepherd.
(Genesis 48:15; Psalm 23:1; 77:20; 80:1; Isaiah 40:11; Ezekiel 34:11-31)
1. I am the good shepherd (11-13)
2. Evidence of the Good Shepherd. (14-16)
3. Reaction to Jesus' claims. (19-21)
1. I am the good shepherd (11-13)
※ There are two reasons why Jesus is called the Good Shepherd.
One). Because Jesus gave and sacrificed his life for the sheep. (11)
※ Jesus Christ died in our place as our substitute, in our place (Ephesians 5:2; 1 Peter 2:21~25).
① For the Jews and pagans of that time, the concept of sacrifice meant giving up life on behalf of another.
meant That is, a ransom sacrifice
② This concept of sacrifice appears frequently in the context of biblical texts.
(Eph 5:2; John 6:51; 10:11,15; 11:51; 15:13; 17:19; compare Ro 8:32; Gal 1:4; 2:20; Eph 5:2.. .)
2). Because Jesus is not a laborer, that is, a hired shepherd. (12)
※ Jesus was born with all rights as a shepherd.
Therefore, the sheep are His, and He is their Shepherd.
※ The hired shepherd is just a hired shepherd until the true shepherd comes.
※ The hired shepherd is false, unreliable, and the irresponsible shepherd is responsible for the sheep, even if very little.
there is only He cares about his own interests, not the sheep's.
※ A wagered shepherd is not interested in his vocation, but is interested in work and occupation, status and fame, money and comfort, authority and respect, tolerance and recognition.
3). A paid shepherd is irresponsible. (13)
① If it meets a wolf (danger), it runs away.
② It makes the sheep suffer danger and bad things. (They will be eaten, or they will be scattered in the wilderness and lose their owner.)
③ They don't really care for the sheep. (Not even interested in the fate and bliss of the sheep.)
2. Evidence of the Good Shepherd. (14-16)
※ Evidence that Jesus is the Good Shepherd
One). He knows his sheep, and the sheep know him. (14)
※ He knows their lives, their essence, and all of them.
* Personal and individual names, joys and blessings, trials and sorrows, wanderings and obstacles, needs and wants, etc.
※ The sheep know His life, His essence, and all of Him.
* I believe because I know His love and care, heart and word, fellowship and leadership, experience and knowledge, destiny and the pasture that He will lead
trust
※ The fact that the sheep know Him so well is that Jesus is the “Good Shepherd” who cares for their lives.
It is evidence. (John 4:42; 10:4,27; 17:3; Phil 3:7-8; 2 Tim 1:12; 1 John 3:2...)
2). Jesus knows the Father, the owner of the sheep. (15)
※ How does Jesus know the Father? It is that Jesus and the Father are one. (John 10:30)
3). Jesus will die for the sheep. (15)
※ Jesus will fight against the enemy according to the calling he received as a good shepherd.
* He did not say that he would be Saul for the sheep, but that he would die.
* He does not lay down his life like the good shepherds, but now says, “I lay down my life.”
4). Jesus worked to enlarge the sheepfold. (16)
※ This is to lead other sheep who are not of the sheepfold.
※ The very fact that Jesus enlarges the sheepfold is proof that He is the Good Shepherd.
* Making the flock increase in number and make it a strong flock requires the owner (father)
It's something that makes you happy.
5). His sacrificial death and resurrection are conclusive evidence. (17-18)
※ No shepherd can do a greater “good” than to lay down his life for the sheep.
He is the “Good Shepherd.”
※ The owner (father) was delighted and loved that the shepherd gave his life for the sheep.
① His sacrificial death was the reason why God loved His Son so much.
② His death was the culminating act of obedience.
※ That death order was given by God. that is
① Jesus did not just because of the sins of men,
② It means that he also died to glorify and honor God.
※ What Jesus was most interested in
① Doing the will of God,
② It was obedience to God.
“Only that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I do as you have commanded me.
get up, let's get out of here" (John 14:31; compare Luke 22:42; John 5:30).
3. Reaction to Jesus' claims. (19-21)
※ A dispute arose among the Jews again. (19~)
One). Many people say that Jesus was possessed by a demon. (20)
2). Some say it seems like the Messiah. (21)
* Can a demon open the eyes of the blind? That is something only God can do.
“I have a greater evidence than the testimony of John, that the work that the Father gave me to accomplish, the work that I am doing, testifies for me that the Father sent me, and the Father who sent me himself testified for me. You have not heard his voice, you have not seen his image, and his word does not dwell in you, because you do not believe in him whom he sent” (John 5:36-38).
