Title Judges 14:19-15:8 Samson's Wrath

Contents (Judges 14:19~15:8)

Samson could not overcome his wife's insistent demands, and on the last day of the feast, he taught his wife the answer to the riddle. Samson was furious with those who threatened his wife and found the answer in a cowardly way, and at the wife who betrayed her husband and betrayed her trust. At that time, the ‘Spirit of Jehovah’ came upon Samson greatly.

When the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, he went down to Ashkelon, killed 30 people there, plundered 30 sackcloth and 30 robes, and gave the price for solving the riddle (verse 19). When the Spirit of Jehovah came on Samson, he committed murder and robbery. Although the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him, Samson could not control his anger with the power of the Holy Spirit and became an instrument of Satan.

Enraged, Samson went back to his father's house. Then Samson's father-in-law recklessly gave his daughter to one of the 30 (verse 20). This made Samson angry again.

Why did these things happen? It happened because I couldn't contain my anger. When people do something unfair, they get angry. However, if we do not control our anger, we become Satan's tools and eventually we will perish. How to manage anger It can never be solved by human judgment and emotions. When anger arises, we must immediately kneel before God. Be patient and pray. Then God will solve it.

When Samson learned that his father-in-law had given his wife to another man, Samson was again furious. Samson caught 300 foxes, put a fan on their tail, set fire to it, and burned the grain fields. This time the Philistines were outraged. They thought that the cause of this great event was Samson's father-in-law, who gave Samson's wife to someone else, so they caught Samson's wife and his father-in-law and burned them to death (verse 6). Retaliation begins another retaliation. And the retaliation did not end there. Knowing that his wife and father-in-law had been burned to death, Samson slaughtered the Philistines to avenge their revenge (verse 8).

Ladies and gentlemen, this unfortunate event started with anger. If you do not control your anger, the consequences will be disastrous. The Bible says, “Be angry and do not sin, and do not let the sun go down on your anger” (Ephesians 4:26). Leave it to God, who said, “Vengeance is mine, and I will pay it.”
