Title Keeping Humanity / Exodus 21:12-17
Content We must keep our humanity / Exodus 21:12~17
Key Verse: “Whoever beats a man must put him to death, whether he sells him or puts him under his control” (Exodus 21:16).
Word: Respect and consideration for others is one of the most important things we need to train. Think how many points I get on this question (10 points, 30 points, 50 points, 70 points, 90 points).
There are four sins that deserve death in the words we meditate on today. The first is killing people. But even in this case there are exceptions. If you accidentally kill someone in self-defense or without a motive to kill, you can first escape with a castle of refuge. A castle of refuge is a place designed to avoid personal revenge in the event of an accidental murder.
The second mortal sin is 'in the case of slaughter.' It means intentionally killing someone. If the first is a frenzied murder driven by a momentary impulse or passion, the second is a cold-hearted murder that is meticulously planned and committed. In the case of a deliberate murder, even if they escaped to the city of refuge, they can be pulled out and killed.
The third mortal sin is related to honoring one's parents. It is a mortal sin to hit or curse your parents. We saw in the Ten Commandments how important it is to honor one's parents. God is once again emphasizing respect for parents. Cursing presupposes that the content of the curse actually affects people. Any form of negative words expressed intensely in the worst case is called a curse. It is impossible to curse the parents who gave birth to me and raised me.
The final sin of death is the act of 'loathing' people. You can call it kidnapping these days. Human trafficking by kidnapping and selling people is the same crime. Kidnapping is an act that directly challenges God's creative order in that it treats people as objects. In God's creation order, man was created as the noblest and most lovable being. It means that you were made in the image of God. Kidnapping and human trafficking are actions that are directly opposed to this. The kidnapping of children, in particular, is a horrendous act. You are taking advantage of an innocent being who has no self-defense ability, and you will receive the most terrible judgment among God's judgments. We must listen to God's teachings to be considerate of people in today's Word.
Prayer: Help me to live with warmth and consideration for my neighbors and nurture humanity. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
