Subject: Last Command
Text: 2 Timothy 4:1-8 Lord's Day (30) Aug. 2, 2009.
(Matthew 28:16-20) speaks of Jesus' great commission.
The key is to preach the gospel, teach it, and keep it.
Paul to his beloved son Timothy
He was in a position that might be the last admonition he could give.
I beg you, I can see what you are ordering.
We go through the text
We want to use it as a lesson the Holy Spirit gives us.
1. Command to Preach the Word
1) the solemnity of the command
(1) The phrase “I command you” indicates that he is giving Timothy a command that must be obeyed.
2) Statement of the content of the order
(2) “Preach the word”, that is, preach the gospel, the word of God.
This was stated first because it is the center and core of his work.
3) Reason for command
(3) “The time is coming when people will not be taught sound doctrine, but will accumulate many teachers for their own desires” (4) “They will turn away from the truth and listen to myths”
In the future, church members will throw away the truth of God because they conflict with their desires,
They will be eager to get the excitement that comes from stimulating their ears.
This is to do the will of the Lord.

“I still preached the gospel in prison.”
The gospel must be witnessed beyond circumstances.
As the Apostle Paul did, we must preach the gospel.
2. Order to fulfill one's duties
A job can be defined as “work worthy of the position”.
We should think about whether we are doing all that is worthy of our office.
1) Statement of the content of the order
(5) “Be sober in all things (be careful in your words and deeds)”

(6-8) Paul is showing that he is not shaken because he has the assurance of eternal life and the blessed hope of the crown of righteousness even in the face of martyrdom.

There was a doctor named Robert Amon in Princeton, New Jersey.

He was an elder in the church of Osceola, and he did his best to know medicine as a profession. Although he received a considerable income, he devoted most of it to the church and missionary work.
Such Amon had a problem.
When I was in college, I decided to become a pastor.
He went to medical school after hearing the words of his parents and relatives, "A doctor has a lot of income, so he can do God's work with that money."
He is a famous revival preacher and pastor, Pastor Oral Robert.
His nickname when he was a doctor became his real name.
There is a testimony that Pastor Robert always bears.
Whether he is a doctor or a pastor, regardless of what kind of work he does, it is God's work,
With the belief that because it is God's calling, we live as God's messengers.

Paul's last command was also to preach the gospel.
It is to perform the duties worthy of the assigned position.
(8) “From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
Our job is also to spread the Gospel.
