Meditation: What kind of faith was Joshua the leader of the conquest of the land of Canaan?
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: "Moses laid his hands on Joshua the son of Nun, and he was filled with the Spirit of Wisdom; and the children of Israel obeyed Joshua, just as the LORD commanded Moses" (Deuteronomy 34:9).
One of the leaders Moses raised was Joshua. The name Joshua means 'Jehovah is salvation'. What kind of person was Joshua?
First, Joshua was an unknown man. The Bible does not contain any detailed family background or mention of Joshua's growth. There is only the expression of the son of Nun belonging to the tribe of Ephraim. He was born in the dark age of the nation in Egypt's tyranny, and spent his youth as a slave in Egypt. However, as the successor of Moses, he is the leader who conquered the promised land of Canaan and completed the most difficult and important task of distributing the land. God uses the unknown. As the Apostle Paul confessed, if you look at the people God has called, they are insignificant in the world (1 Corinthians 1:26-31).
Second, Joshua was a thoroughly God-centered man. In the Bible, Joshua is a person who fully obeys Jehovah God (Deuteronomy 32:120), a person full of the Spirit of Wisdom (Deuteronomy 34:9), a person of bold faith (Numbers 14:6-9), and a person of courage and vision (Deuteronomy 34:9). Numbers 14:8). In other words, he was a completely God-centered man. That is why God entrusted Joshua with the task of conquering Canaan, which is more difficult than living in the wilderness. Unlike humans, God looks at the heart when choosing a leader (1 Samuel 16:7). Even today, God is using people who are completely God-centered.
Third, Joshua is a man who has been guaranteed by God. God raised Joshua and promised him a future. When God appoints and uses people, he guarantees the future if he lives according to God's will. God speaks to Joshua, who is concerned about becoming Moses' successor. “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). The greatest strength in this world is the presence of Jehovah God. No matter how strong the enemy was, the Israelites won one hundred battles when God was with them, but no matter how strong their soldiers were, they were defeated when God was not with them. A leader with God is the strongest and greatest person.
Prayer: God. Make me a man of faith like Joshua, and always be with us and protect us. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
