Lesson 1 Living to Glory to God

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:3131 Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Glory - Respect. heighten. boast

 

1. Why should we live a life that glorifies God?

1) Because that is the purpose God created us for Isaiah 43:7

7 Let everyone who is called by my name come, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed, and he I made.

2) Because I received God's mercy as a Gentile (because I received the grace of salvation)

Romans 15:99 that the Gentiles might also glorify God for his mercy, as it is written, Therefore I will give thanks to thee among the nations, and I will praise thy name.

3) Because it is the Lord's request for the saints (the life of the saints) 1 Corinthians 10:31

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

 

2. What is the content of a life that glorifies God?

1) A life of solid faith

Romans 4:20 20 Without faith he did not doubt the promise of God, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 confident that he was able to accomplish what he had promised, 22 therefore it was counted as righteousness to him.

Romans 10:1717 Therefore faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

2 Timothy 3:14 13 Brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 14 If anyone does not obey our words in this letter, do not associate with him by name, and put him to shame.

15 But do not think as enemies, but exhort as brothers.

2) Life of offering sacrifices (devotion) as thanks

Psalm 50:2323 He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors me, and to him who does his ways right, I will show the salvation of God.

3) A life that makes every mouth confess that Jesus Christ is Lord

Philippians 2:11 11 Every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Romans 10:10 With the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

4) A life of faithfully believing and obeying the gospel of Christ and making generous donations (offering) to serve all people

2 Corinthians 9:1313 With this ministry as a witness, to the glory of God for your sincere faith and obedience to the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in service to them and to all men,

14 And they intercede for you, and they long for you because of the exceeding grace that God has given you.

5) A life of receiving God's promises with Amen 2 Corinthians 1:20

20 All the promises of God are yes in Christ, so that through him we say Amen to the glory of God.

6) Serving by the power of God

Life 1 Peter 4:1111 If anyone speaks, let him speak as if he were speaking the word of God, and if anyone would serve, let him serve as by the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. and his power endures for ever and ever. Amen

7) Life to keep the body sanctified

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 18 Flee from fornication. Every sin a man commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body. 19 Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. Do you not know that you are not your own, 20 you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

8) A light life (a life of good deeds)

Matthew 5:1616 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

9) A life of suffering as a Christian (meaning suffering from living according to the will of the Lord)

1 Peter 4:16

16 If you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God in that name.

10) A life that bears fruit (fruit/deeds)

John 15:88 My Father is glorified, that ye bear much fruit, and ye shall be my disciples.

Then what kind of fruits should we bear?

 

(1) Fruits worthy of repentance Matthew 3:8

8 Therefore bear fruit worthy of repentance,

(2) Fruits of evangelism

Romans 1:1313 Brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant of how many times I wanted to go to you, so that it might bear fruit among you as among the other Gentiles, but the way has been blocked until now.

(3) The fruit of holiness

Romans 6:22 22 But now that you have been set free from sin, and have become slaves to God, bearing fruit that leads to holiness, the end of which is eternal life.

(4) Fruit of salvation

Romans 15:27-28 27 They did this for joy, but they are also indebted to them. If the Gentiles had a part in their spiritual things, then they ought to serve them with the flesh. 28 Therefore, when I have finished this work, I have confirmed to them this fruit. I will stop by you later and go to Savannah.

(5) Fruit of light (all goodness and righteousness and truth)

Ephesians 5:9 9 The fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.

(7) The fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control) Galatians 5:22,

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 Gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law.

(8) Fruit of good deeds

Colossians 1:1010 Walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God.

(9) Fruit of righteousness and peace

Hebrews 12:11 11 Any discipline at the time does not seem joyful, but sad, but those who are trained by it later bear the fruit of righteousness and peace.

(10) Sacrifice of praise (hymn: the fruit of lips that testify of the name of the Lord) Hebrews 13:15

15 Therefore let us always offer to God a sacrifice of praise through Jesus, which is the fruit of lips that testify to his name.

11) By building the temple

Haggai 1:8 (Old Testament) 8 Go up to the mountains, and take wood, and build the temple, and I will rejoice and be glorified in it, says the LORD.

 

3. What are the fruits (results) of living that please God?

1) God is with us.

John 8:29 29 He who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, because I always do what pleases him.

2) Answers to prayer will come.

Psalm 37:4 4 Rejoice in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

1 John 3:22,23

22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do what is pleasing in his sight. 23 And these are his commandments, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another as he commanded us.

3) You will be rich.

Philippians 4:18,19 18 I have all that I have and have abundantly, and I have abundantly because I have received what you have given me on the part of Epaphroditus, an acceptable fragrant offering, pleasing to God 19 My God in Christ Jesus in glory He will supply all your needs according to his riches.

4) Enter the kingdom of God.

Hebrews 11:5 5 By faith Enoch was taken away that he should not see death, because God had removed him, and he was found no more.
