Text: Genesis 22:1-19
In Exodus, the phrase “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” appears repeatedly in Exodus (Exodus 3:6,15,16; 4:5). When the prophet Elijah had a prayer confrontation with 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah on Mount Carmel, he received answers when he cried out to God, “God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!”
Then why did God call Himself “the God of Abraham?”
The reason Abraham was the source of blessing (Genesis 12:2) and the people under the world were blessed through Abraham's seed (Genesis 22:18) was that Abraham obeyed God's command with absolute faith without arguing. because of.
Hebrews 11:17-18 “When Abraham was being tempted, by faith he offered up Isaac, who, being the one who received the promise, gave his only begotten son. He had already said to him, "It will be through Isaac who will be called your descendants." He thought that God could raise him from the dead."
Through these words today, we must learn to truly serve God.
In order to serve God well, “do what God commands you to do, even if you die, and don’t do what God tells you not to do, even if it means death.”
It doesn't matter whether or not it fits my heart, standards, and circumstances. Real faith is obedience to God's Word.
God asks for sacrifices before blessing us and prospering for our good relationship. We're not asking because we don't have it, we're just asking for it to test us. It's to see if you're obedient. Isaac asks his father Abraham, “Where is the sacrifice?” But when his father bound him, Isaac knew. But he pushed his old father away and did not run away. Like his father Abraham, Isaac was a man of obedience. If I become a good believer of obedient faith, my children will surely become like that.
The obedience of Abraham and Isaac is a type of the obedience and atonement work of Jesus Christ, who gave himself as a ransom sacrifice on the cross according to God's will. If we confess that Jesus as “my Savior,” we must ourselves be sacrifices to God.
Sacrifice requires sacrifice and dedication. Therefore, God seeks sacrifices in two ways.
① A person who volunteers.
In Isaiah 6:8, the prophet Isaiah saw the glory of God while praying in the temple, and in response to the voice of the Lord saying, “Who will go for us?” He volunteered, “Here I am, send me.”
② It is the person who is attracted.
In Exodus 3-4, we can see that Moses did not want to go even after receiving God's call, so he made various excuses, and only after being rebuked did he emerge as the leader of the nation of Israel.
If I were God's sacrifice, would I do it voluntarily? Or will you be forced to be rebuked and dragged away? Our sacrificed life means that we must first acknowledge and love others. Jesus also said
